alternator parts found

Post by ekap1200 »

Hello all , from New Jersey. Well as most that know me, I generally take the time for quality maintenance in the off season. However situations here have kept me from that this past off season . So now with 118 K on it , I started getting a replacement part list ordered up. Now even though the Alt is working well , it has some time on it and nearing the time for brushes. While searching for them, I found the exact same assembly from a mitsubishi dealer. The cost of the holder, regulator , and brush assembly 17.99 with 3 to 5 day free shipping. At that price it don't pay me to solder in new brushes. And I have a few high mileage units here that could do with a recon. So time will tell what will arrive at my door. More news on this recon to follow. Had issues with Avon tyres (still available for our bikes ) as good ol UPS dropped the ball and LOST the front tire. Still wrestling with them to pay the shipper so he can credit our account. And Revzilla has only shipped 4 of 10 bearings/seals for both wheels and swing arm cones/cups/seals. U-Joint I have in house, don't know what that would cost now or how long to ship. I will feel at ease with all new bearing and driveline. And for only the second time since I have owned it ; I have had the front end wobble. Easy fix , retorque and back to being wobble free.
I read I missed allot with this rally. My heart goes out to all that had problems along the way. Heading out there was just not in the card for us this year. Been a busy year for us and my retirement is less than a month away. been packing away as much money as we can and buying everything I may need for another 100,000 miles
I can finally finish up on my to-do list once I am free of my day job...

Hello Loren from the HIGH tax state of New Jersey. I have not heard or read a thing about it. I will be retired by then , well in two more pay checks I will be done ... It can't come soon enough. My parents are in very bad health, (both of them) and it has been a rough time of it. But I am doing fair , but will miss having a water-jet at my disposal . The welding and sanding in an air conditioned shop is really getting to much for my lungs at this age. What a bunch of little girls they are. I worked most of my life with the heat of engines and in boat/ engine rooms and never needed air. These young workers are spoiled and the metal dust and welding fumes will catch up to them. I really wanted to go to the rally this year, as we both love the western part of this country. Hope we can see ya's this fall.

Well here is an update, Swapping out a good used (but high mileage) alternator resulted in nothing. Talking to Tony from Toledo this change in sound may be the water pump bearing about to go. So no harm in spending 18.00 for new brushes and I just happen to have a pump off of, 1991unit with only 56K on her, garage kept and always trailed on long trips. I just happen to have all the o-rings and the seal in house. I have not been online much in the past year but I am sure ya'll like pictures.

The last photo is of a Zephyr barn find that took for ages to get back into running form.

A few years back I felt a annoying vibration on the left hand side of engine ........when I fount it , I was amazed that this water pump wasn't making noise.....and the vibration MUCH worse than what it was ! Then one morning oil on the floor .....out it came , ordered a whole new pump, kept the old one for parts or rebuild . now have a box full of water pump parts from the 9 Voyagers I have owned in the past decade ...... :-D
