Heres my new bike

Well, once the cable holding bracket broke pff the carbs i contacted carl leo.another $250 ,forr carbs.very reasonable price. BUT, enough is enough. I still need to replace broken fairing pieces, then both tires, the front brakes dont work, the wiring in back is hacked up. I am getting it fixed slowly. But even with me doing the labor its another 750 or 800 bucks. So, i went on marketplace. Found this wellmaintained beauty. It needs tires and a seatcover. It runs,idles, brakes, its amazing. First time i ever rode a voyager . I love it.

Seems like a good decision.

I should've held off for a bike that needed less work, but there really isn't much available here. Never mind that the ad for mine fell a bit shy of true and complete ... and I drove a long way to look at it.

But on the other hand, the advantage of getting a bike that needs a lot of work is little inhibition to "making it mine". Now, after all, I'm disinclined to go back to stock.

Whenever I purchase a used vehicle, I anticipate repairs and updates, factoring them into my "final price," for ownership. Personally, I will not buy a bike that needs a lot of work -- I only do lightweight mechanical work, everything else goes to my trusted professional mechanic @ $130/hour.

Even when I buy a fully functioning bike, I expect to upgrade several parts on it, within a month of ownership: carb balancing/cleaning, by my professional mechanic; complete fluid changes (I replace what I can, the rest go to the pro), top to bottom, including Fork Oil(!); new tires -- almost always; new Rear Shocks and Fork Springs (Progressive are incredible, compared to most OEM); an LED Headlight and a Modulator; LED light replacements, front to back. I go into the purchase knowing that I will have these added expenses, from the start.

I do these things so that I know the bike is as safe as I can make it, to ride. My wife rides, and she will ride whatever bike we purchase, so I need to know that she is as safe I can make her, especially if we will be riding it together (our children and grandchildren want both of us to be around for a long time, yet). We trade positions, every two hours, when riding two up. The passenger frequently naps on the back. We need the bike(s) to be in prime condition, at all times. If a bike is not worth the whole cost of ownership (see above), we move onto the next bike for sale. Cheers!

My 93 i had to find someone to fabricate an upper shock bolt.i did. I got the carbs cleaned. Then the bracket broke where the accel cable would have gone.another 250 to carbs if i decided to keep spending money.i need dront and rear ties
.front brakes dont work. The prior owner hacked into the rear harness, cut off connectors. I bought another harnness.onand on. If this was a norton or kz 900 or something valuable i would keep spending. The replacement bike needed nothing bt tires.cheaper than the estimated 800 more to fix my 93. So i am ok.

Thanks cushman. First ride. I said ok, ease out on the freeway, dont rev it too high. Just go one through 5. I did. I looked down once i got in 5th. 90 mph! Dang. Cops everywhere I ride. I slowed down. Remindedd me of my first ride on a 2001 goldwing 1800. Mmmm. I love it.

Rode in a group tour, two-up, five years ago. We rode from Connecticut, to Cabot Trail, in Nova Scotia, with a bunch of Harley riders. They jazzed up to 90, every couple of hours, on the freeway -- I think they needed to flush their fuel injectors and carbs out, or something. I kept up with them, easily. I think that shocked them. I just opened the throttle, and I was right there with them. I was laughing so loud, in my helmet, and in my intercom... My wife asked why I was laughing? I told her what my suspicions were, and she laughed, too. The leader of that group tour was her brother. They did NOT know what to think of my Rice-Burner. I had a smile on my face most of the trip. They were stereotypical Harley riders, through and through.

Enjoy your new ride. It is a sleeper, in my opinion. And it is sooo fun to surprise people with what it can do. Cheers!

I bought a rear tire from ebat.$86.00 compared to about $150 at a dealer. Ive never removed a wheel on a shaft bike. I hope i can.my plan is to pull it on my parts bike so i have an idea what to do.

What did you buy for $86??? Brand/model/size and what's the DOT date code on it? You didn't buy a used tire, did you?
