Quick Exhaust Question
New owner to a XIi. Question about the exhaust. Its a 4 into 2 system with crossover. ( Correct me if Im wrong) well, at the rear four tips on mine I get exhaust puffing out the two outer tips but the two inner tips feel as if they are sucking air a bit. 100% of exhaust is being passed out of just the two outer tips. Is this a symptom of something wrong? Valves? 2-3 cylinder issue? Seems like the exhaust would be thouroghly mixed from all 4 cylinders before reaching the tips and would be exiting all 4 tips equally.Im kind of confused about what is happening.

Re: Quick Exhaust Question
I do not think the center two are open to the exhaust, but are just cosmetic.
I tried to run small piece of wire up both of my right side, and the center tip is blocked part way in .

Re: Quick Exhaust Question
Interesting. I'll try the same wire trick. But I swear it feels to me as if it sucks a little air in in cadence with the engine. Very well could be my imagination.cushman eagle wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2023 12:06 am I do not think the center two are open to the exhaust, but are just cosmetic.

Re: Quick Exhaust Question
Yes, one tip of each pair is a dummy.

Re: Quick Exhaust Question
Thank you for clearing that up for me. Was worried something was wrong with 2-3 cylinders or something else going on.

Re: Quick Exhaust Question
I don't think it's really a dummy, just doesn't flow much at idle. The plumbing in there is complicated.
Recent Harleys are like this two: one side seems blanked out. But until a decade ago or so, those two mufflers were identical. (I still plan to fab these older Harley ones onto my XII, to grow it a pair. Unlike others on here, my XII is NOT a girl.)

Re: Quick Exhaust Question
Nails, did you ever get the Harley mufflers on yours? I've been contemplating the same thing.

Re: Quick Exhaust Question
No. I haven't even repaired a breakdown a year ago. Been super busy -- I might have to come out of retirement to get some rest.
