Hi guys a question for you, is it the nature of the ZG1200 1990 too rev its spuds of when doing 70/80 when in 5th ?
please advise

I think you're going to be the cause of much amusement, merriment, and shenanigans around here. Probably started by me and/or Nails.

Ok, to translate, guys: "Is it normal for my 1990 ZG1200 to rev its nuts off at 70/80 mph?"

Now to answer your question: define "revvin' its spuds off" as in what kind of RPM are you seeing? IIRC without relying on something more reliable than my memory (it's been a whole hour and a half since I last rode) I think somewhere between 3-4k is normal. Torque peak on these bikes is around 5200 rpm, so 3-4000 is definitely not running fast. Horsepower peak is something like 7000 rpm, and I can tell you from experience that they will quite happily exceed the 7500 RPM redline by a substantial margin. I can also tell you from experience that 6800 rpm in 5th gear is 120mph on the speedometer, 113 according to the GPS. She will run like that forever, quite happily, apparently. I don't know if she'll hit redline in 5th, I can tell you that she was still accelerating and I backed off at 120 on the speedo. Fast enough for me, thankyouverymuch.

Something else to relate - a buddy was riding a Concours 1000 (GTR1000 to you, I believe, Nigel) and we played chase through the mountains - The New Tripoli Twisties, up around Scranton, PA if I recall correctly. There was not a huge difference in performance between the two bikes.

I like comparing the ZG1200 and the ZG1000 (Concours). 113 mph vs. 120 mph. Six feet difference in braking from 60 mph. Our bikes are pretty much Concourses (what the kronk is the plural of Concours?) with some extra doodads and about 150 more pounds of weight. Fun bikes.
