I was in a similar crash many years ago on a Vulcan. Called a lawyer, went to the doctor he recommended .
won a lot of money in the law suit.
Went to a dealer in 2004. They had 2 ea brand new 2002 voyagers on the floor. Paid cash for one. Wish I would have brought both. My only advice. Talk to a lawyer and go to doctor he recommends.

Yep, that's exactly what i'm doing. Talked to a lawyer (who also happens to be a friend of many years), and on Monday am going to the doctor he recommends.

I went to the impound yard to finish cleaning out Gertrude's saddlebags, and started her right up. She did make a weird noise right after starting but it went away. I only ran her about 30 seconds, if that long. So, as in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, she's "not dead yet". I don't know if she's fixable, or if the other driver's insurance is going to pay the storage charges, or what. Kronkin' shame. Poor old Gertrude.

Oh and I looked at insurance costs for new bikes, and they're astronomical.

My insurance from pregressive on both my voyagers is very reasonable. After my crash in 2012 after hitting a deer at high speed ( No one to sue ) on my 02 my bike was totaled. After buying the bike back from the insurance co. And the settlement on the bike price plus accessories I made money on rebuilding her. I got all the plastic stuff ( all different colors ) from Carl Leo sub frames ect ant had all the pieces custom painted I came out almost Even plus another voyager that I later rebuilt.

By the way. Good thinking on the legal advice. You’re not hurting the little guy. Just the big rich insurance company

Update on Gertrude: I went to finish cleaning the bags out, and figured what the heck let's see if she starts. She did, and ran fine. Only one little instance of a crunching sound, which was probably a piece of the crankshaft cover getting eaten.

I don't have the facilities to work on her, nor the money to get her out of storage. If anybody wants her, $500 plus storage fees (at this point, about $500, going up $50/day).

She's more than just a machine, she's a dear friend. I often refer to her as "my pet elephant" (because she' grey and from the front kinda looks like an elephant). We've had many great adventures together. I wish I had the facilities to keep her and work on her. When I got her she was a piece of stuff, an $800 bike. Suspension clapped out, tires square, melted airbox, kronked carbs, missing bolts in the frame, rattly all over. Figures as I finally got the last rattle silenced... lol. I hope to see her go to a good home and not to a junk yard. I just don't have the means or ways to do anything with her.

Ted
Thanks. As for parts, oh yeah, Gene Kapuszinsky (I never am sure if I'm spelling his name right so I usually just call him Gene Kap)(ekap1200) lives about an hour from me. I plan on either raiding his parts stash or adding to it. Another awesome source is Carl Leo, The King Of Voyager XIIs, down in Florida.

I don't know yet what I'm going to do with Gertrude. I can't afford to get her out of storage, and looking at the photos, I think she may be dead.
There are always good parts on a wreck. Got nothing for your 2000 color. How much are they asking for storage ?

Probably close to $600 now. $50/day. Let's see, Tuesday it was $315, so today it's $565.

The insurance co will total it out and take possession unless you buy it back from them.
