New Owner of ZN1300!
I’m happy to announce I’ve got my hands on a cherry 1986 Voyager that’s completely stock! It even has the owners manual and service manuals!
I was wondering if there are any quirks of this bike that I should be aware of or issues that it’s known for.
I need to get to the fluids and tires replaced, hopefully the engine is in good shape as well - I heard a noise that made me a little paranoid.

One Quirk (off the top of my head): there's a 'Cruise' button, but it's not for 'Cruise Control' - the button leans out the fuel mixture to improve MPG's. After riding the bike around a bit you'll be able to feel when it's in cruise mode (there is an indicator too) as it'll feel a bit more gutless than when it's not in cruise mode. I tend to leave mine in cruise mode all the time unless it's really hot out (cruise mode will, at least in theory, make the motor run hotter).

I would have to say the Voyager found a good home. It took 2 and a half years to find it ?
Another little quirk they have is if it becomes hard to start (especially when cold) it may be time to set the valves.

Another weak point, as with many bikes of that era (and even the current era), is the three phase alternators (there are two alternators) connector pins can get dirty, overheat, and cause the connector shells to melt (eventually leading to a dead charging system). The pins can be removed from the connector shells and cleaned or replaced, or even soldered together to avoid problems.

Yep it kind of sounds like ticking under the bike. I’ve got zero experience identifying engine issues, but I’ll post an audio file tomorrow!Van Voyager wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2024 9:45 am Can you describe (or post an audio file) the noise are you hearing?

Yep it’s been a crazy search! All the ones that I’ve found in my area have either been turned into cafe racers, spray-painted, had the wiring harness spliced into and causing issues with the electronics, or just left out in the elements.
This one was garage stored by an older gentleman that wasn’t confident in his ability to handle it. It’s got 24,500 miles on it with all the stock components. I’m so happy I found one with the cassette player still intact!
Once it gets a full tune up, this will be an amazing bike for a long time I hope!
