How Does Seafoam Work?

Post by gsmorgansen »

I had some carb trouble with my '87 XII...on slight openings of the throttle, it sounded like only 3 cylindars were firing or that it was running extremely lean...no power to speak of and would have to wait until 2K rpm minimum for everything to start running right and this was after having the carbs gone through. I coughed up $7.99 for a can of Seafoam on the recommendation of some on this board and others .

Use 1oz./gallon of gas in a full tank per Seafoam directions. Ride for a few miles and shut down. Wait a couple of hours and then take another ride.

I saw the difference immediately. Now the engine pulls with authority from idle on up with no more missing and complaining.

How does this stuff work?!

Sounds like it works Great!! :gig: But it is basically a fuel additive of the right chemicals to clean and dissolve petrol product varnish build-up & other crud. Being that it is mfg in Minnesota where it gets very#@!^)(* :cold: It may have ether & other products to help get the fuel system clear. It's been around for a long time and has worked well for many. It works real good on all the vehicles and tools that you have to store for a long time.. Really clears up a 2 cycle engine like chain saws and weed wackers that sit alot. One other thing that you may try or maintain is the tightness of the rubber hosees that connect the carbs to the engine. They loosen with time and will suck in air. To test, if you can move the clamp it is to loose Fix: tighten clamps screws! :bat: Ride safe..

Not only does it remove tarnish it removes moisture from the fuel. It is also great to run in the oil to clean out the internal build up. I use it in the winter instead of Stabil. Stabil tend to dry out seals.
