Drain plug under the bike for coolant, use silica free antifreeze, I'm pretty sure that's what it takes. I sought out "aluminum and motorcycle safe"

Here's the problem. When these bikes won't idle at about 8-900, we adjust the knob. Well, by doing so, you might adjust it to far to allow the butterfly to expose the vacuum passage to the ignitor. At the same time, the butterfly exposes more holes in the bore under it.
The adjustment was needed, in my band-aid fix, due to pilot curcuit issues. I just tore down the ones I'm having issues with. Sure enough, thumb knob adjustment caused the vacuum port to be exposed to the ignitor. At an idle, no timing advancement is needed. What I found was a cpl of the pilot jets clogged. Passeges are good.

I found the root cause of my idle and performance issues. The surge box behind the carbs was 1/2 full of mouse bedding and mouse food seeds etc, that the little buggers had stored there. It was randomly getting sucked into a carb. You can only imagine throwing mouse food into a 4 cylinder engines carbs running at 4000 rpms.If I get this photo posting working I will post some pics

Tiny pics works well, just before you save it, it'll ask what size to save it. 600 x 800 for posting. Then after saved, you'll see options on what picture size to grab, to post here.

I bought a voyager this week and have been getting it fixed up to give to my dad. I have scoured the hose routing info and cannot find where the hose to to IC ignitor is supposed to run from. Mine has a vacuum line from #1 and 2 carbs going to a T and then forward to the vacuum switch valve. Where do I connect the IC ignitor to? Also not sure where the nipple on the #1 carb just above the float bowl is supposed to route to, there is no hose currently.

That is where the hose for the ignitor slips onto, that little angled brass nipple. It supplies the vacuum to the ignitor.

Hello Scott, You should post those pics under a different title , to warn other newbies of spring time issues, this one has cost you much labor so far. Make sure it don't cost ya cash because of a washed cyl. Make darn sure No shells or sticks are holding a valve a bit open and you take it out for a spin with a miss And gas wash a hole, or burn a valve.

Winter storage , gas additive, remove radio 3AMP fuse/even if your are removing the battery (read the book) , tank topped off. and what I use is a small rag that has some window screen around it made to nicely fit the air box inlet, Rodents can not chew stainless or plain steel screening. THEIR ENTRANCE IS CLOSED . Oh and on gas additive I chose Sea-Foam brand.
I have seen all sort of critter make a quick home in just a few days of leaving an engine unattended .
I also have noticed your carb's drain hose looks like it was kinked and never to have been able to flow/fuel ??? Is that correct ?

That is a good idea using a rag.I store the bike indoors since I bought it in 09.Havent had an issue with mice since when I bought the bike.It actually ran great on acorns.I pull all the bike batteries and intermittently charge them throughout the long arduous New England winters.I pulled the carbs and cleaned them today, took me four hours. No issues but I did manage to blow out two of the main jets when using compressed air after the ultrasonic.Luckily I was doing it over the trash can, found one in the can and one right on the floor, very lucky.I did soak all the jets loose in the ultrasonic and used moms toothbrush to really clean them nicely. Then soaked them all in Berrymans cleaner for an hour just to make sure. The aftermarket idle screws I bought years ago with the thumbscrews have a taper that was more pointed then the stock ones so I did not use them. The carbs are resting on the bench,I will put them back in tomorrow after bench testing them to make sure the floats are functioning properly.I am not looking forward to putting the throttle cables back on,they sure are difficult to get at,especially with over 60 eyesight. The bike idled fine before, just not as good as I know it should. The carb drain hoses are kind of tired but they all are free,I drained all the bowls before I opened them up and will measure the contents of each one when I bench test them tomorrow.I always drain the carbs at the end of the season too,use Stabil and seafoam, seafoam regularly.I am thinking about new inlet rubbers tonight,I might bite the bullet and order 4 new OEM ones, the originals are pretty stiff after 36 years, but they didn't leak,I have sprayed some ether at them while running,no leaks.IM thinking New rubbers will make it easier to get them reinstalled, sure is a tight squeeze, and those surge box boots are a real bugger to fit also.Ive done it before and don't have fond memories.I am a motorcycle enthusiast,my garage is full of bikes, all registered and ridden regularly.I am no stranger to this kind of thing.Having a table lift makes this hobby alot more enjoyable for sure.
