Is that a bad thing? If you want yours to work like it's supposed to, I would start with a conversation with the great Carl Leo. It's probably just the module. Hope your body has recovered and you're able to resume all your plans for this year. I would have wished you a speedy recovery, except the info you put out was in a thread I wasn't following.
Hmm.... That's interesting. The red and brown is connected when the switch is off... and if im reading the schematic correctly on page 15-16, the red wire connects to the black/white wire when its on. If it works though, maybe im looking at the switch symbol wrong. Sure looks like the red to brown gets disconnected when you turn the switch on. If connecting all 3 works though, maybe ill just try that. Thanks.
You likely know more about BRP than I do. But I think you're planning way too many miles there, given that the max speed is 45 and often less, and that you're gonna want to stop and smell the roses. Just sayin'.
I thought the same, but CC is prone to failure in its notoriously quirky electrical design. Often these failures are temporary. I mean, I often look to these lights while riding to try to get a handle on why the damn thing just quit working.
Note that the CC system does not used latched solenoids, but instead uses complex circuitry to maintain power to the solenoids. One of the two switches is normally on, and the other is normally off. I'm just saying that I've found this circuit design challenging to wrap my head around.
There are many reasons the CC might not work; and even if it did there are many reasons it'll likely fail again. I doubt the "hardwire" you mention will bypass what's wrong with it ... which probably is a bad switch in its "cancel" circuitry. I mean, you can't set the CC if it's in a "cancel" state.2wrems wrote: ↑Mon Mar 15, 2021 2:34 pmI'd hate to go through all of hassle of buying the CC switch and drilling holes and all that if one of the other parts of the cruise system doesn't work. I've never had a bike with cruise, it would be nice if i could get it working, but if i can't no big deal. I'm gonna try to hard wire it today.
Many years ago I purchased a 98 vxii from John Ramsay. (He's on this forum as vxiirider.) He had performed this modification so he could use a tank bag. When I got it from him I just unplugged the 3 connector strap he had made and plugged in the factory pod with the lights & switches. I didn't pay attention to which wires it was connected to, so I cannot say the information I provided earlier is correct. I just know it has and can be done.2wrems wrote: ↑Mon Mar 15, 2021 3:39 pmHmm.... That's interesting. 1986 false tanks are the only ones without the cruise control pod, so they are very rare. I would not drill holes in it. Instead I would pick up another false tank with the cruise control switches. That will help immensely in troubleshooting. My cruise control died one time on a 5 day trip. I bought a vista cruise to get me home. After I fixed the cruise control I just left it as a backup. They are simple & work well. JM2C.Nails wrote: ↑Mon Mar 15, 2021 4:13 pm There are many reasons the CC might not work; and even if it did there are many reasons it'll likely fail again. The manual has a nice outline for checking the circuitry on the pin-outs for the CC module (under the left fairing). I've repaired mine only to have something else fail, about once per year. Right exactly now, mine doesn't work (again).
The CC is great, but you'll want to get familiar with these diagnostics. I also recommend a Vista Cruise for backup. And I urge caution before hacking it too much.
I didn't realize what that CC piece on the fake tank was. I thought maybe it was just a display. Not until i tried using the CC that i found it didn't work and saw that part on the fake tank was the main power switch. I'm glad it just needed a bit of hot wiring, and that one of the other parts of the system aren't malfunctioning.
