Hi, Pete;
I got my XII back from the mechanic 3 weeks ago, and set up the radio as per your instructions (Thanks!) It seems to work, but reception is way down. I'm in central NM, and all of the radio antennas from local stations are on the peak of a 10000' high (5000'AGL) mountain about 60 miles from my house. Reception used to be much better, but now I can only get 1 or 2 (fm) stations with a very weak signal (I have to turn the volume all the way up.) I checked the antenna connections and they seem to be ok. Don't have a clue what's up. Do you have any ideas??
Thanks!

I am not Pete but there are a couple things you could check on. Did your mechanic work anywhere where the antenna cable runs through the bike? Your antenna cable has a shield which is the outer part of the cable and is braided. The inner core is separate, take the antenna off by unscrewing it from the base. Unplug the antenna from the back of the radio. If you removed the radio before to sent it to Pete you know you can access it by removing the headlight. Once unplugged put a cheap volt ohm meter on the cable with the positive on the core and the negative on the shield side of the cable. Put the meter on OHMs. If you show a complete circuit the cable could be mashed somewhere and is shorted. Inspect the cable. If it is not cut, mashed anywhere you can plug a cheap car antenna into the radio like you can find at an auto parts store and see if you have good reception. If you do you know the problem has to be somewhere in the cable or the antenna itself. Seldom is the antenna itself a problem but check where the cable goes into the antenna mount. It may end up being necessary to run new 50 ohm cable from the radio to the antenna to fix the problem. For folks who need one, a radio manual is on the website link in my signature.

Thank you for this post. Somehow that back mute button shut me down for a day. On another note my front left speaker is scratchy sounding. Any suggestions?

Pete, my cassette deck has died. I suspect it has broken the band inside. I am thinking of sending you the radio this winter and having a conversion to blue tooth, SD player. I will look at the radio removal videos so I know how to remove. 'thanks for doing this.

Mess with the fader control and see if the scratchiness goes away. If it does I might suggest to hunt for a replacement of the fader control.

Sorry i haven't been very active here. Life happened..
Anyway , I can be reached at b6sw@hotmail.com or via the AVA Facebook page or the Kawasaki Voyager XII Facebook page.

Scratchy speakers.
Thats probably the speaker voice coil gone rusty or the speaker suspension ring got bent causing the voice coil to rub against the magnet.
you can sometimes fix it with a gentle persuasion and bending the speaker but its probably time to replace them.

I used to suggest the Pioneer TS-G43R (44/45 versions too) but they are not "Marine" so you take your chances.
I use the Polk DB401 now and they are good.
Of course, as with all 4" speakers, you really cannot expect a large amount of bass from these.

cheers and a Merry Christmas to all .
Pete
