Yes the filler cap is on the left hand side. Put no more then 3 quarts 22oz of oil in. that is if you remove the filter and drain both of the oil plugs on the bottom of the oil pan. the only wrench you need to remove the filter and drain plug is a 17mm. Also many of use use Shell Rotell 15/40 dyno oil. Non synthetic

There is a sight glass on the left side near the bottom of the engine, but the bike has to be level to read it consistantly. If it is not level,it will not be accurate.I set mine on the centerstand and have a place in my garage that sets it level, and check it about every 2000 miles. If it is level 3 qts 22oz has the oil in the sight glass just above the center.I check it for level with a carpenters level on the luggage rack.At least it is not as hard to find a level spot for the bike, as for our trucks with 3 foot long oil pans where being off level can make the dipstick inaccurate by +or - 6 quarts :gig:

drain all the oil using both plugs and the filter. place it on the center stand and trust the 3qt 22oz amount. let it settle out and then read your sight glass. Use this visual as a visual indicator for quick oil level checks between oil changes. I switched to Rottela T on this last change and was amazed at the difference it made in shifting and engine sound.

The only time you should have to access the oil filler cap is during oil changes. Use the right size phillips to remove the cover. Be careful pulling the 2 peg mounts on the cover from their rubber mounts. It is easy to break them. If you put the right amount of oil in the bike you should never have to check the level unless you know for sure it is burning oil. Check for oil residue on the exhaust pipes if you don't know. Good luck.
