Motor oil level on stand -vs- level on ground
... OK, I'm confused, at my age, it comes real easy...
If I measure the oil on the center stand, it's different than bike level on ground...
As the center stand takes a crane to get the scoot up on it, I have to measure it on the ground
balanced, like I did my Nomad.
I need an apples to apples level! My wrench didn't drain the second plug up front and I had them
drop the oil and start over. No filter!!! According to the book, if Ya change the filter you 3qt 22oz,
3.7qt.... if NO filter, 3.4 qt = 3 qt 13oz (.4x32=.12.8=13oz...)
My wrench put 3qt 13 oz in the scoot and it did not even appear on the oil window!!!! He
put in 6-9 more oz and it came to the middle of the glass....
When I got home, I checked it on the scoot / balanced, like my 'Nad...
Now, it's at the very top of the glass.....
Can someone tell me where it should be on the glass, balanced, on the ground!!!?????
This should NOT be that hard!!!!!!!!!!! TIA The center stand is NOT an option!!!
NO!!!! I'm not gonna be bothered to "fix" it!!!!! It can be made to work with a
crane, if need be!!!! I have a scissor lift if / when needed.....

Can't use the window. Just need to put the recommended amount in and don't worry what the sight glass says.

This has been covered so many times it hurts. Ignore the sight glass. It will never give you an accurate reading. Put in 3 quarts 22 oz. of oil which includes changing the filter and forget about it. If you change your oil every 3000 to 4000 miles you will be fine. If your mechanic does anything different knock him in the head.

Re: Motor oil level on stand -vs- level on ground
The sad part is, I've NEVER had a wrench change my oil, the reason for it this time
was he had to change my water pump and the radiator juice and oil had to come
out, so it made NO sense for me to have them put dirty stuff back in.
My wrench put in 9 oz too much oil in, I'll remove tonite or tomorrow when it
cools down, and I'll call it good. Hopefully I'll have SOME kinda visual
feedback.... Sorry to trot it out again!!!! Thanks for the replys!!!!!

You need to learn how to be your own wrench. You can't trust others on your bike.

Re: Motor oil level on stand -vs- level on ground
Easiest way to use the sight glass is ,once you have the correct amount of oil in and have given it plenty of time to run down ,check your sight glass .
Now you have a visual as to were it should be .If you park your bike in the same place each night ,this is pretty accurate .
Where and how you park your bike affects the sight glass which is why many don't use it .

I only let them change the oil as the water pump needed changing, and the old oil had to come out....VoyKimmer wrote:You need to learn how to be your own wrench. You can't trust others on your bike.
I normally do it myself, and to make it much worse, this was my first Voyager change, and I
really did want to do it myself! In MUCH agreement!!! I don't wrench, but do my oil changes!

... I really do tunnel think, try not to but habit is nasty....
I've always got on my scoot, pulled 'er up and checked the oil.... now I own a scoot
where I can effectively check the oil on the side stand..... sigh..... who'da thought.....
