Center stand

Post by Wahrsuul »

Ok, somehow during my son's use of the bike, the center stand handle - the one with the little "foot" on it" got severely bent. We hammered it back part way, but it still scrapes all the time on left hand corners. Do I need to replace the stand? How hard is that?

Spring not pulling it up all the way? It's welded to the 2 part stand. When I replaced a cpl of these,, I only used the part it''s attached too, not the whole stand

I know what happened - he tried to get it up on the center stand when it was sitting on a piece of plywood. He didn't have a a garage or paved area to do the oil change. I get that, I don't have a paved area either, and getting the V into the garage is a handful with 2 people to do it. Still, I'm surprised the handle bent.

yes, it's coming all the way back up to the stops, but the handle is bent far enough down that it scrapes on hard left turns. I wonder if I can't just hammer it further back up, but I'm concerned it's weakened by the bending and will just bend again. Thought maybe replacing it might be the way to go. I don't have a welder so that's not much of an option.

I have no experience with how tough it will be to bend this back but in my opinion, If I have a chance at fixing something, I give that a try first. If it works, I saved $. If in the end it doesn't work out, you were already thinking of replacing it anyway. If you think you might have a chance at hammering or putting a large long pipe over it and bending it back with force, give it a try. What are you out if it breaks or doesn't work. Just a bit of time and effort. Good luck.

Lucus had the right idea. Get a torch, heat up the offending piece bend it with either striking it with a heavy hammer or use a piece of 2" pipe that you can slip over it while it's hot and lever it into the right position. You will have to heat that part until it glows to be effective. The only other alternative is to get another stand. You can often find them on Ebay under parts for Voyager XII.
