New Voyager owner questions

Hey all,

I'm new to this forum, just picked up a new to me 1999 Voyager with a bit over 64k on the odometer. I just wanted to say that y'all are an awesome group of folks with a bunch of great advice to share! What a great resource! I want to send a shout out to chevyman1 who helped me get a bar to brace the crash bars (PO had dropped the bike and bent them), Pete Franchi who was super helpful in regards to developing a fix plan for my radio and Carl Leo who was very helpful in trying to locate some missing parts! This is on top of the very good advice I have gleaned from all y'alls many posts.

So far I have done:
Swapped all fluids (except clutch and brakes, waiting on speed bleeders), new air filter, new spark plugs, new wheel bearings, new tires, carb sync, voltmeter.

I have a clue of remaining questions:
1) does your clutch engage only in the last 5th of its release? Mine seems very close to the end of its range of motion and I'm wondering if that is normal...or a worn down clutch, or a problem swapping the clutch fluid will fix...my first bike with a hydraulic clutch cable...
2) is the thicker temp bar about 1/4 up the temp gauge where into engine temp should stay when running? Mine runs at idle or in traffic about 1/2 way up the temp gauge before the fan kicks on... that doesn't seem unusual to me except then what's the point of kawasaki putting that thick indicator bar on the gauge?
3) it looks like I have a small but steady fuel leak (just a lil weep really) coming out of the drain from carb no 3, is that typical of a bike that was sitting for a while and just had a can of seafoam and fresh tank of gas run thru her or an area for further investigation??

As for the carb leak. there is probably trash in the float bowl that is obstructing the float valve. It wont close if there is trash in it. I am afraid you will have to remove the carb bank and check the bowls on all the carbs. Behind the plastic side covers you will find buried in there a fuel filter. Change it out as soon as you can. Get yourself a surgical clamp to pinch off the hose coming from the fuel tank before you pull it. I use a John Deer tractor filter. The part number can be found on the AVA home page on Dollar For Dollar under the tech section.

Mine engages about 2/3's out from full pull in. so maybe you need to change out your clutch fluids first then if the problem continues it may require internal work. I personally have never tackled a clutch plate change out. As for the fan. It will come on during hot days. My temp gage has never gotten into the hot zone even with Louisiana summer temps. However my fan has come on in traffic and when I have been backing into the garage on a hot day. Make sure you use a 50/50 coolant.

Thanks all! Mr Jensee I appreciate the advice and will delve into the carb and clutch per the above. Also, I'm currently working on your rear speaker mount fix which is spot on - I can't wait to not hear those speakers banging around behind me

My speaker fix was a two parter. If you can find both halves of the post and do as I did I can promise you those speakers will never move again. Thank you for the kind words. Glad to see you are ordering speed bleeders. They make changing fluids so much simpler.
