LED’s. Over rated by Chinese seller.

Post by madmax »

First things first. A Very Merry Xmas to you all from Wales UK. Have a good one.

Right, now for my story.
Hi for those of you thinking of changing your bulbs to led’s, be careful of what you buy.
Make sure what you ordered is what you get.
I was after a pair of ‘H3’ Led’s for some old projector type fog /spot lamps, that I was going to fit on to my voyager.
So on to AliExpress I went to find a pair. There are loads of them to choose from.
Which one do I buy? Let’s find the most powerful led in ‘H3’ form that will fit.
UP pops a firm called “MON-SU.” The spec. gives 7.5watts power. Great.
So I ordered 2 pair of them. Wait a few weeks for them to come from China & they arrive.
They look just like what I ordered. So lets test them with a 12 volt PSU & Fluke multimeter.
Surprise, Surprise, Not the correct wattage. They claim 7.5watts but they are only 2.5 Watts.
I contact the seller through AliExpress & opened a dispute. The seller made excuse after excuse & said he would get back to me. But never did. A week or so later AliExpress got back to me & told me to keep the Led’s & refunded my payment. So the seller lost out. No payment & no led’s.
AliExpress holds on to your payment until you are happy.
Surprise Surprise! If you check AliExpress they are still being sold on the site.

Buy the way, when I tried the led’s in the fog/spot lamps, all I got was a beam pattern like a doughnut. With very little light in the centre of the beam. One day I’ll get around to trying them in normal type spot lights, but until then they can stay on the shelf.
For those of you who want to get some free ‘H3’ Led’s, order some and then open a dispute when they arrive.
Maybe the company will change its ways. But I think not.

Clicked on the first link you listed, got this forum, blank screen for posting a new topic. https://amervoyassoc.org/forum/posting. ... e=post&f=2#.
Second link went to the right place.
BTW, how did you determine the wattage, like this? +++++++++++> P(power in watts)=I(current draw in amps) X E(voltage 12 volts)

What was the amperage? Was it 0.2083 amps? If it was, you calculated correctly.

The formulae is
to find P it would be P=IE
to find I it would be I=P/E
to find E it would be E=P/I

Another good place to buy LEDS is WWW.SUPERBRIGHTLEDS.COM. We buy from them for our company.

Hi Hank 43, Sorry about the first link but that was supposed to be a smilies, I just dragged & dropped it into the text. Nevermind.
With regards to the power rating,I connected one fluke in series for amps & another in parallel for volts. Multiplied the two together & you get the answer in watts. Easy. Just to let you know I've been an Electronic Engineer for over45 years.

My guess is that the "fine print" states they re equivalent to 7.5 watt incandescent bulbs.
