Battery Idiot Light

Post by RDW-B14 »

I'm changing the water battery to AGM. The salesman said put the idiot light wire to positive post to make the light go off. I've not installed it yet. Does the light stay on if not powered? If it does, isn't there a way to unplug the light instead of hooking it to power?

Thanks for your help!

Take care, RD

That light is only lit when the bike is running. There are a few ways to cancel out the light, I have been running AGM batteries for about 6 years and still haven't cut/spliced my wire yet. I just ignore the light. I know what it is and why it's lit, of course it screws with others when they look at the dash while it's running! :rolling:

I did a quick search, easy this time since I knew what and who I was searching for! The message below was from a post a few years ago, but still stands strong!

Put a voltmeter on it when running to verify any issue with the charging system. But you'll need to put some distilled water in the battery, or replace it with a new one. Most have gone to gel or AGM style that has no provision for the sensor. Clip the sensor off, and attach it to the orange wire on the turn signal relay, if I recall correctly. That'll keep the light turned off and not back-feed the system with the ignition, unlike if you hooked it directly to the positive side of the battery.

So, I cut the bullet terminal off the battery light wire and put on a spade. Then pushed it in with the orange wire on the turn signal flasher. Battery light off! Good deal, thanks!

Now, talking about the flasher. Is there a way to disable the automatic turn signal canceler so I can control them manually?

Also, do you really have to have the ignition ON to use the 4 way flashers?

Thanks, Take care, RD
