Replacing the Headlight

Post by ragergreg »

I had to change my headlight the other day and had to take off the Cowling. Put this Page on Youtube...

Easy to follow steps and other videos including upgrading the sound system.

There is no need to remove the cowling. Just the head lamp trim will give you the room needed. Stay with the AVA repair procedures by ones that have done these repairs/replacements / and needed items to check and adjust. Many here are Paid Professional mechanics that have done these things for a LIVING. With years of expertise....

Don M. may chime in on this , he just replaced his head lamp bulb in the parking lot of the motel this week on his Vulcan Voyager . I never seen him take the cowl off..... Same goes for the 1200 an easy, task.

Just watch the video, good quality video.

To replace the headlight bulb, you'll only need two tools. A 4mm allen wrench and an 8mm socket with ratchet. The chrome cover for the headlight has a 4mm socket head bolt in the bottom remove it. Now with steady pressure pull the chrome cover off. YOUR HANDS SHOULD BE PLACED TOWARDS THE TOP OF THE CHROME COVER. With that removed remove the four 8mm bolts that head the headlight bucket. After all the bolts are removed pull the headlight assembly out. Unplug the headlight DON'T DROP and remove the rubber cover, release the spring retainer that holds the bulb in and remove bulb. Total time 20 minutes unless you cross thread the 4mm bolt?
