I was just looking over my maintenance records for my Voyager 1700 and came across the entry of my new battery. I installed the battery on 09 14 2015 or 4 and 3/4 years ago the mileage was 99,620. The battery is a Shorai Lithium battery. This battery requires a Shorai battery charger. Cost of the charger was $69.00.
I was surprised by the age of the battery, because it turns this big V-twin over just like when the battery was new. I was told that the charging system on the 1700 wouldn't work with this battery, I've yet to have a charging problem, the miles on my 1700 today 180,300. Will hold a charge for at least 3 weeks with out being on the charger. Just did that a couple weeks ago. Only real drawback is the cost, when I bought the battery cost was over $200.00.
Cold starts have been no problem, the winter of 2019 I was on a ride, when i came out to head home the temp was 28 degrees. I turned ignition on for a minute, to get the battery warm. Then turned ignition off and finished packing, then when I pushed the starter switch the engine spun and started like it was 60 degrees. Best part is the battery only weighs 3.1 pounds.
