Shell Rotella T6 now in various Viscosity Ranges

Post by SgtSlag »

I know many of the members here use Shell Rotella T6 Full Synthetic Oil. I did, for a couple of years, but I began having false neutrals, between all gears. When I switched from T6 5W-40 to the non-synthetic Rotella T 15W-40, my false neutrals disappeared.

I just checked Shell's site on Rotella T6 Full Synthetic, and they now offer it in three viscosity ranges: 0W-40, 5W-40 (this is what it was, previously, and only), and 15W-40. Kawasaki specifies a range of 10W-40, to 20W-50, for hot climates. I assumed the 5W-40 was just too thin for my bike's transmission because 15W-40 seemed to eliminate the false neutral problem. Now I just need to locate a supplier who offers the new T6 15W-40. The API ratings show JASO DH-2, MA/MA2, but nothing for gasoline car engines -- just motorcycles. Link to the web page showing the three viscosity ranges now offered in the T6 formulation. Link to the spec sheet for the 15W-40 flavor. Just thought I'd share.

Also, here is an interesting test video on the T6. The most interesting part, of course, is his comparison of Delo oil, and the T6, from the professional laboratory.

At 9:58 is when he begins discussing the lab results. Cheers!

The price varies. Last year I paid $16 for a gallon of T6 15w-40. This year it was $26. As Cranky mentioned, it's now $22. Oil prices fluctuate.

Sgtslag, if the false neutrals are with a cold engine then the change to 15W40 makes sense from a viscosity standpoint. If the false neutrals happen with a warm engine then it is something else; 5W40 and 15W40 are the same viscosity when warm.

Agreed. However, they occurred at all times, all temperatures. When they went away, I sighed with relief. Have not returned, as of yet. I just know what happened, but not why. I will not argue with success, even when I don't understand it. Cheers!
