What a great selection. We trust the 2021 was a big success and we do appreciate the nice "Hello" video last evening.

Well now, let's see here... grew up in Phoenix, have friends and kin in Phoenix, miss the mountains, rt. 89A, the Rim, the White Mountains, the Grand Canyon (that I have never been to, but flew over once), hmm... oh and a whole year to save my pennies! Yep, think I'm gonna try to make this one!

We are afraid that 1800+ miles are a little too far for our "old" bones so it looks like we will have o pass for another year. John and Mary Jane

Assuming that there will be no Covid, and the temp is something less than 200 degrees F, yeah, we will go!

It will depend on what the actual dates end up being, but I intend to be there.
It doesn't take much of an excuse for me to ride from FL to the west and this seems like a good excuse to me.

We are planning on attending and partaking of the Route 66 Ride-In when it gets scheduled. For sure going to have to get some serious butt-toughening rides in before Rally time though !! Just made our hotel reservations and registration will be in the mail shortly.

Re: 2022 Flagstaff, AZ. Attendees
We are planning to attend and hope to make the Ride In whenever it is finalized. Not sure what we'll be riding as I just picked up a "new to me" Goldwing a few days ago. Doing some minor repairs on the Voyager but may opt to ride the Wing if I can get a trailer hitch installed. Will be making room reservations in the coming days....

Re: 2022 Flagstaff, AZ. Attendees
I'd like to support this but way too much of a bunch-quitter myself: not into group rides, motels, or conferences -- isn't that a work thing? The best I can do is offer:
1) Emergency help. I live a nine-iron off I-25 near Pecos, New Mexico -- PM for contact info. I have an old pickup and probably can be around on those days, whenever they are.
2) Alternative routes off the damm superslab. Northern NM and AZ have some great roads if you want to make time for them (all long-cuts). Also loops to the south if you're a weirdo like Denny.
One mostly-freeway option I can suggest right now is US-84 north, just past Santa Rosa, to slither up to I-25. 84 is almost freeway but still fun. Lots of twisty and camping up the Pecos Canyon (NM-63 north -- narrow, in the mountains along a fine river), little hikes (like Pecos Natl Mon -- free), and Santa Fe (especially for the great restaurants). Then continue on I-25 back to I-40. (If you have more time, then maybe instead of 84 take those state roads from Tucumcari to Las Vegas -- the real one. Fill up in Tumcumcari. IIRC, there's some well-graded gravel bits, no problem.)
Another long-cut is US-550 from just north of Albuquerque, through Farmington, Shiprock, and Four Corners, and on across the northern Navajo Rez (US-160) and back to Flag. Stunningly gorgeous Indian Country, and it goes right past the Grand Canyon. Definitely keep an eye on your gas gage.
And I've been back and forth to various points east way too many times if you want opinions about that. Such as through the Wizard of Oz parts of Kansas instead of Oklahoma and Texas.
El Rancho is a great stop, especially if you're into Hollywood. I like the restaurant -- southwest-style with a Navajo twist. Yah-ta-hey. If you're into silver and turquoise (Zuni needlepoint or Fanta Se Tacky), the Gallup shops offer great deals. Just check out a few before buying anything ... and do haggle.
Too hot? Naw. Gene must be thinking of the desert in Utah and Nevada, but New Mexico and Arizona are elevated (in every way). My house is just under 8K, the Continental Divide is near Gallup, and Flag is up there too. This ain't Texas.

Re: 2022 Flagstaff, AZ. Attendees
Winter maintenance frustration. Remember my comment about me being worn out? Well, I'm now waiting on 3 surgeries! Circulation, digestive and respiratory. This fall I was aware of just one problem that I hoped to get fixed during winter down time. Thanks to the virus clogging up all the hospitals, there's a long waiting list ahead of me. Nothing is scheduled still. I was told maybe mid April. My boss told me I could go if I trailered the bike down. Well, I suppose that's better than not going. Yesterday I found a trailer to borrow. Will keep ya'll informed. I only got 2 short rides in 2021. Pretty hard to justify hanging onto a machine that's meant to ride all day.

I can't "Thumbs up" such bad news. Truly sorry to hear it.
A clarification note: Barry is retired. Vivian was a telephone lineman, and she has a lethal attack dog. She be Da Boss.
One of those was to save me from myself. It was successful, I'm pleased to report. But I can only hope the other was more gainful.
