There has been some discussion lately regarding tethers for the lids of the side cases on the Voyagers...a suggestion follows:
A brother-in-law of mine drilled a 1/8' hole front and rear in the lids of the cases on his Yamaha Venture and pop-riveted a small-diameter bungy cord to the underside of the lid front and rear. He then attached the bungies via one of the screws at the front and rear case clamps. He made the attach points waterproof by sealing them with silicon sealer. When he removes a case lid, it is held to the side of the case by the bungies, with no need to find a place to put it while getting into the case.
I have an '87 XII. The case lid clamps are secured by three nuts inside each case, front and rear. I am not sure about other years of the XII, so can't recommend this to you fellas and gals.
I use my XII for around town and short fun trips in my area and so haven't taken the time to do this to mine. But it is something that long-distance travelers might examine.
I think I'll drop over to his house and take some photos that I will post in a bit.
