Speaking of choke problems!!

I read the post on "Wanna choke it", went out and was going to start my bike since it has been sitting for over a week because I have been out of town. Went to push the choke on, felt a little resistance (normal) then absolutely NO resisitance. Something broke or come loose and the bike refused to start. Now what?

Your choke cable broke. I don't know if you could work the choke plunger effectively by hand until you get a new cable.

Yes I do, and I guess I am going to have to go get it and read how to go about the job of replacing the cable. My son scolded me when I told him about the choke cable and he said, "Dad!!! You don't lubricate your cables do you?". I didn't answer.

I'm with Gary. It most likely broke. They are not that difficult to replace. Get with Carl. Also, you actually can manually engage the "Inricher" from the right side of the engine when starting the bike. If you look, you will see where the cable connect to the rightmost carb. Just reach down there and push on the end of the bar and hold it while you crank the engine. That usually will get you started. You usually only have to hold it for just a few moments, then you can play the throttle.

To replace the cable, remove the old one from the carbs and at the handlebar, the cut off the bent chromed part that's at the handlebar end. Tape the carb end of the new cable to the remaining cable where you cut it, and use the old cable to pull the new one through. Just did mine last week when I rebuilt the carbs, worked great. Steve

Thanks a million, Steve. I have a cable on order and plan on fixing it over the holidays. Great weather here in Louisiana, how is it in Florida?

Thanks, Bill. I started my machine yesterday using your advice and drove my motorcycle to the store and back. I was grateful to be able to do that, knowing that I am not grounded until the new cable comes in.

Wow, reading this has helped once again!!!! I also have a broke choke cable and have had a hard time with cold starts. Just went out and puched the bar on right side of carbs and she lite right up, thanks again guy, now to call Carl and get a cable.
