This is a lens from an 02. I put cardboard on the middle rack of our elec. oven and then put the complete tail light assembly on the cardboard. This is to keep the metal rack from melting the plastic. I then turned the oven to 180 degrees and left it in there for about 15 minutes. The sucker is kind of hot when you take it out. I had removed the three screws on the bottom side of the tail light assembly. At 180 degrees the hot glue that holds the lens assembly together gets soft. The red lens is also held in by three tabs. Look on your light and you will see what I mean. I hold the lens vertical in front of me and slowly apply pressure pulling it apart. The last thing to let go is the side where the three tabs are. It should come apart fairly easy. If not, heat that sucker up again. That glue is really hard if cooled. I then use emery cloth under a little water to remove the paint. I do it by hand just to be safe. At first the cloth is fairly abrasive but in just a little bit it starts to get less abrasive. Before it is used up I get another piece and save the used one for later when just the primer is showing. It would take an hour or so to do if you kept at it.
On the inside of the red lens is silver paint opposite of the red paint on the outside. This can easily be taken off with Acetone. I put some on a rag and the paint just wipes off. Really easy to do. I then spray the inside of the lens. (where I want to) with plastic cote chrome paint. After it is dry I put the whole assembly back into the oven and heat it up real good and press it back together. (remember that you want the glue real soft and pliable) You're done and you have a kickin rear taillight now. You can get the Voyager emblem off the lens but I've never had the luck to be able to save it. I'm sure you can get a new one. Just pretend that the whole assembly is just $20.00 and it works great! If you have a question, feel free to ask away.
