belt adjustment

Post by DennyPotoczky »

I just replaced my rear tire on my 10 voyager, cause I put 9K miles on it since Aug. As I was putting it together I noticed that my adjustment marks were all the way back to the 3rd notch from the rear. I set my belt tension a little on the 'loose' side, so this seems pretty far back for a fairly new bike. Can several of you tell me where your index marks are at on your voyager?

thanks

Hey Denny, I couldn't really see the marks on mine but there is about as many threads showing on both sides of the adjustment nut. I don't know a lot about belts, but I would imagine that there isn't much stretch in them.

Mine didn't seem overly tight to the point it would stretch that much - just the usual factory setting. I've got a belt on my 06 - 2000 (80K) and it has never stretched that much. I'll have to do a little investigating on this.

thanks again for checking

i doubt that our belts "stretch" at all. More likely they are wearing in the tooth area, and sitting down in the pulleys a little bit makes it seem like they are stretching.

I used to work for Dayco years ago. The cogged engine timing belts were made with Kevlar thread, and they were strong as anything. We used to use a couple of old belts as slings for picking up huge pieces of production equipment with fork trucks or a crane. Those belts were incredibly strong!
