Land Yacht
I've always (kind of) wanted to have this style of trike. The CL ad has made the desire fester back to the top again.

Part of me thinks it wouldn't be enough of the riding sensation to be gratifying. I'd be better served with a Miata or something similar. Anyone else struggle with similar thoughts?

Re: Land Yacht
I hope someone makes a cool trike that leans into the curves if I reach that point in my life where I still want to ride and the legs just can't handle holding two wheels up.

Re: Land Yacht
They make a high performance model for the ZX14 and C14, David. I'm not sure about how much "curve lean" it would have, though.David (N. I've looked at Hannigan's products for several years now. I tend to like it much better than other trike/side car conversions.

They don't mention any leaning, but it does look interesting. I think I will bring home a Concours this weekendBruce in OK wrote:They make a high performance model for the ZX14 and C14, David. Re: Land Yacht
I have seen a forward trike system where the front wheels were gimballed for a really good lean. Unfortunately, I can't remember where I have seen it. Looked pretty complicated though. Was set on an HD (of course), but looked gnarly as all get out.

Re: Land Yacht
No problem, JD. Piaggio (Vespa's parent company) produces a three-wheeled trike that leans. It comes in 250cc, 400cc, and 500cc models. They show up for sale pretty often on the Modern Vespa forum and on E-Bay. Many have been wrecked, though. My guess is folks push the envelope and the high center of gravity bites them. Here's a video if I did it right:

Re: Land Yacht
David, there was a Vulcan 900 Drifter (the one that was an Indian clone) with a side car on E-Bay a few weeks ago. It was rigged up for a parapalegic (dirt bike accident). It had hand controls for shifting (don't remember the positioning) and a foot brake conversion on the inside of the left hand grip (clutch lever on the outside, brake lever on the inside). It also had a servo switch that allowed the rider to change the camber of the sidecar wheel on the fly. It looked like it might allow for some lean.David (N. Alabama) wrote:I hope someone makes a cool trike that leans into the curves
I couldn't find the listing when I checked.

Re: Land Yacht
Not a leaning trike but it's as close as I've seen (aside from scooters like the Piaggio MP3):David (N. Alabama) wrote:I hope someone makes a cool trike that leans into the curves if I reach that point in my life where I still want to ride and the legs just can't handle holding two wheels up.

Re: Land Yacht
Now that is pretty cool, but you would still have to learn to take corners all over again since you can't change the radius of the turn very much. Pretty much have to follow the automobile wheel tracks. That would take getting used to.jaster wrote:Not a leaning trike but it's as close as I've seen (aside from scooters like the Piaggio MP3):David (N.
