My local dealer has a 15% off parts and labor. With their already reasonable rates and the fact that they've installed one KAMS kit already in about 3 hours, makes this hard to resist. My only problem is cosmetic- the black plastic exhaust fan cover (behind the rear cylinder on the drive side) is butt ugly and (IMHO) really detracts from the bike's appearance. Any word on whether Kaw will be offering a chrome cover? That would sell me. Otherwise, I don't do a lot of stop and go so the engine heat doesn't kill me.
Also, the only KAMS post on our forum didn't seem to rave about the kit. For as much as it costs, I'd love to hear from others who have had this installed and ridden it on local roads as well as highway. It's a considerable investment. Thanks!

Hey V. Haven't heard of a Chrome cover for that area. I believe they made it black so it would blend in and disappear on the bike, but I guess that depends on what color your bike is.
I decided that I didn't need the kit because I have other choices when the temps really rise. If the Voyager were my only bike, I would get the kit and the Baker Air wings to pull in more fresh air in the hotter months.
I have ridden a '12 Voyager with the factory installed KAMS kit and felt a noticable difference in the level of heat felt between the legs. I purposely rode it around the courthouse and made sure the fans kicked in.
I seldom ride in town and don't feel like the heat is unbearable. I also wear 12" engineer boots when riding the Voyager.
I did however change the coolant to Engine Ice when it came time to service the coolant, and wrapped the pipes while I had them off to service the swingarm. My bikes cooling system works well and always has. If I let the bike idle until the fan kicks on and continue to let it idle, not only does the temp gauge stop climbing, but it actually descends until the bike is cool enough for the fan to shut back off.

That cover is plastic, which CAN be chromed...... contact your local chrome plater, he can do it, but don't know what it would cost, you would probably have to pay some sort of set-up charge, so try to find someone else who also needs plastic chromed. OR, just chrome the whole fairing, saddle bags, and trunk..

We live in a hot climate, and also, we rode in the Rally in Kanab, Utah, where the temp was 110 degrees plus. It was hot, but bearable. I also use Engine Ice and have wrapped my pipes, so that may also help ..... Remember, you are sitting on an engine that is about the same size as some cars. Open the hood, and straddle that some time!
