Updated Fuel Filter Info

Post by Rhinestone Kawboy »

I went to change out my fuel filter recently, and found out the information that I had originally posted on the Dollar4Dollar page concerning NAPA fuel filters is now obsolete. I thought I would post it here as the filter on the Dollar4Dollar page now listed will NOT fit in the holder, they must have changed numbers, filter or something. Anyway, follows is the updated information for this application so the members have it, and the webmaster can update the website.

NAPA- Part #3007, $3.49 each as of 1/30/2013, fits '86-'03 ZG1200 Voyagers. Does not come with hose clamps. This filter contains a 50 micron screen element for filtration. You may also have to use smaller hose clamps or screw type hose clamps to clamp on the slightly smaller inlet and outlet tubes of the filter, otherwise it fits the fuel filter holder well.

If you purchase the John Deere filter it is an exact fit and much cheaper than OEM.

When I tried the crossover from John Deere, it was anything but the same fit as OEM. Maybe the filter bought at a John Deere Dealer is different than the crossover that I checked at two auto stores. Anyway, if you don't have a John Deere dealer handy, the one I noted above will fit, and at $3.49 I'm sure is WAY cheaper than OEM. Just wanted to update my info that I posted a few years ago to make sure the members had the correct info.

And thanks Bob, it's been awhile since I posted here.

That is strange because I purchased mine from a JD dealer, used the part number listed on the dollar for dollar and it was nearly identical to the OEM unit I replaced. No modifications to the hoses or anything. You can usually find a JD dealer in any medium size community. When you find one they are cheap enough to buy a couple spares.

Well, like I said, maybe the ones from a John Deere dealer is different than the ones that the auto stores showed me that was supposed to be the same as the John Deere, but wasn't. Whatever, if someone has a John Deere near by, go there and get theirs, if not, or a NAPA store is closer, go there. As long as the filter will work and reasonably fit in the holder. Worst comes to worst, go to a dealer and pay too much. Not the dealers fault, just too many getting a little off each transaction I suspect.

Replaced my fuel filter today with a John Deere AM116304 (number from the Dollar-4-Dollar section.) The guy behind the counter didn't say a word or look it up in a book, just turned around and pulled one from a drawer. I said it must be a common filter to which he replied "very common"!

The one I replaced is in the bottom of the photo. I assumed it was the OEM filter (no identification) but could be wrong because Mr. Jensee stated his JD filter (same number) was almost identical to the OEM. Anyway, the old filter was installed backward with the arrow pointing to the gas tank, not toward the carbs!
