Removal of messages?
Hi, I appreciate all that the moderators do, let me say that first. Often a thankless job.
Actually, this is just a question about messages we post. I posted a trip message last (probably, or maybe end of April) early May about a ride I took to see my ill Stepfather in Washington State. Best I can remember it was posted as "Ride for Life". It seems to have been removed as I cannot not find it in the forum.
Not an issue, but I am curious as to future postings disappearance possibilities.
Thank you for any answer,
Ken

Ken, I remember the post. Did you click on "View your posts" in the upper right hand corner and look through your posts?

Yes tried that. I did a member search on my name. I even sent the write up in an email to family and I can't find that either (must be a government conspiracy )
Tried finding the picture on the computers at home, can only find pic's of the 1st 2 days.
Thanks for noticing,
ken

Re: Removal of messages?
Ken, I believe it is a government conspiracy! I just tried searching for one of my posts I made last spring/early summer but it's gone! It had some info I wanted to refer back to. "Curiouser and curiouser......"

Re: Removal of messages?
I remember a problem with hackers and spam awhile back, drove Duane nuts I think, may have lost them while weeding that out. Some of mine are gone too.

So blame the hackers/spammers and we will just continue to appreciate Duane, gearheadfla wrote:I remember a problem with hackers and spam awhile back, drove Duane nuts I think, may have lost them while weeding that out. Some of mine are gone too.
even "if" he did have something to do with it.

Re: Removal of messages?
I discovered the culprit! The forum has a function called "auto prune" whereby topics are automatically "pruned" (deleted) a set number of days after the last view. The number for most forums was set pretty low, 120 days. That means that if no one looked at your topic for 120 days, it was deleted. I bumped the number up considerably, the minimum is now 180 days and the more popular forums are 365 days. The tech tips forums are "never" deleted (this is unchanged.)
