Carb Vacuum lines...

I have been diligently working on the 1994 Voyager I just got, and this past weekend I noticed the carbs had a vacuum leak. It appears that the outer carbs have vacuum lines that go up to the airbox or wherever they go, but the two in the middle just have plugs and one plug is missing. No big deal, I plugged the hole with my finger and the bike started idling a lot better. My question is, how are the vacuum lines supposed to run? My first thought was that they were really only used for syncing the carbs, and plugging it would be fine... but I want to make sure everything is hooked up right.

if memory serves the two outside ones are tee'd together and go to the vacuum advance on the ignitor. The two in the middle are capped off (that much i'm sure of). To sync the carbs you would unplug all of them and use these spots on the carbs to install the hoses for the syncing instrument.

Thank you very much! I just wanted to make sure the middle ones both had caps! I will head to the auto parts store!

The two outer ports tee up on the top of the valve cover, then on to the crankcase vent system. ( controlling filtered air into the top and out the rear of the engine upwards into the bottom of the lower air box.) Sitting on the bike / left side /on carb / small silicon hose goes to the vacuum advance via a plastic ( filter ) . The two transparent hoses ( carb venting ) facing upward from in-between #s 1@2 and between
#s 3@4 loop up and over the lower air box.
All four are used to sync the carbs , then reconnect the hoses and install the two rubber caps.
If you had only one look down around the Alt or starter, someone may have dropped them .....
