cooling fan stays on with key off

Post by rgmyszak »

Hello everyone, my 88 xii, for some reason the cooling fan is staying on, even with the key off.Drained my battery to zilch. This is when its cold and just sitting, had to unplug the fan connector to shut it off. Thought it might be the fan switch and unplugged that but no go.Does this sound like a relay? Thanks for the input.

Could be a stuck relay , OR someone has installed a switch some where that you don't know about. The relay is one of the three that are up above the headlamp. Could be a chaffed wire to ground from the fan sw causing the relay to be on. That circuit is not keyed and the relay can be fielded on at any time the switch wire is grounded. I say one of the three because who knows how many hands have been there and maybe moved their position or moved the plugs, from one relay to the next. Hope this helps
