I don't ride in shorts, but I do like the thought process. Because most people think things can only be done one way. This may bring other people to do other things that might make things better for us.

My bike came with a rubber gasket where you put the pipe insulation. Did your bike not have that?

Can you show me a picture of the rubbers on the lowers that is supposed to be there from stock. Mine does not have anything else either.

Philip, I can't remember if they were on your bike or not. Easy to put on though if they aren't. Here's a picture though. About an inch or two in from the back edge.

chris - your pic is also missing the factory gasket piece. it actually rests up against the cylinder block and stops the air from hitting your legs. Steve

oops looked again. maybe it's there - the black i was seeing seemed to be behind the place it's supposed to be.

I have been thinking how to divert the heat from slipping through that area too. (the desert heat it enough, I dont need the engine heat too) My bike does have the factory rubber seal, but it does not close the gap completely, I had thought of putting plexi glass cut to the motors contours with some soft foam edging to press against it.

I took the bottom fairings off because of the excessive heat when summer riding in shorts. I was very surprised how much heat comes off the engine. And I have the full rubber gasket from top to bottom. I was under the impression that there was no breeze to dissipate the heat that was present. Without the bottom fairings is a little better but still not good.

If you want to get more air in the cockpit get some Baker airwings or the OEM Kaw ones. (If you can find'em) They work great, had'em on our 91 and will be soon putting a set on our 99... They can be set to bring in more air or can be set to block cooler air in the winter months

I'm not afilliated with Baker airwings but can attest that they do work...
