Rick (aufgeblassen) I just don't get you. you're not a mechanic, and frankly have very limited knowedge of vehicle mechanics as far as I can see. You have essencially alienated yourself site-wide here, Yet you continue to post up useless and inane posts with misleading informantion. Worse yet, you have no BASIS for your statements, other than something you may have read or heard somewhere. So why do you do this to yourself? Why are you so intent on being the irritating court jester around here? Don't you have anything POSITIVE to add? Do you enjoy irritating and alienating the groups you're trying to hang out with in real life? Why do you insist on being that way here? :hmm:

That's weird! All the Wal Marts I have been in (in FL & Georgia) have had several weights of Mobil 1 in quarts, gallons, and even 5 quart bottles.
They are talking about Rotella synthetic and not Mobil one. I think you may know that.

AUFGEBLASSEN -
Do you ever read what the posts are about? We were discussing the Rotella Synthetic. And yes, I have seen Mobil 1 available at some, but most times they are gone as they really have tons of DYNO oil but limited amounts of Synthetic. And since they are over an hour drive away from me, I am not driving there just in case they might have it.

Aufgeblassen wrote:The bottom line (drum roll, please): Mobil 1 is much higher quality than Rotella Synthetic. STORY HAS ENDED.
Really? Do you have oil tests for your motorcycle oil running one then the other under the exact same conditions for the exact same miles? Since you say that oil tests are a waste of time, I really doubt you have any data to back anything up.

Flip,
I have not seen the Rotella synthetic at WallyWorld for a while but know they used to carry it. Must not have been able to badger Shell into meetine their price demands.

Anyhow, I know Menards carries it and at a better price than when it was available at WM. Dunno if you have Menards in your area but I guess the bottom line is to kind of keep an eye out for it at 'unusual' places. Also, Menards has the best price on SeaFoam. Have not checked at AutoZone and the like but will try and remember to swing by there this evening.

The Menards is near the Wal-Mart, so I will have a look some time when I drive to Omaha.

Thanks for the update as I would have never looked at Menards for oil.

If your engine is running perfectly fine, just keep running it. A good analogy, would be to just keep using a light bulb, until it burns out, rather than changing it before it burns out. It could burn out in 1 hour, or thousands of hours.
and if you fail to maintain your "perfectly" running engine, it will fail sooner then later. Hopefully that failure will happen when you first start it up and not as you are cruising down the road...what is that saying....pay me now...or PAY me later!

But I firmly believe that if you maintain or repair/replace what is showing significant signs of wear, your well oiled machine will be just that...purring right along.

Your comment about oil samples being useless to determine when a failure will occur is off base to a degree...while it may not tell you that tomorrow at 12 noon it will fail, IT WILL tell you the amount and types of metal or other contaminants in the sample. If you have previous samples a good mechanic would be able to figure out approximately when the part will fail.

I always wonder why these posts get so far off topic...What does any of this have to do with how much oil is in a filter????
If it is worth having, it is worth taking care of...
