Homebrew or Reinforced CB Antenna Mount ??

Just wondering if anyone has built their own or reinforced the stock CB antenna mount.

Being a ham radio operator, I am more into function than asthetics so I put a 'Firestick' brand antenna on the stock mount. Antenna works like gangbusters but the stock mount broke in less than a full season of riding. Will post a picture when I get home this afternoon.

Toying with the idea of an aluminum machined part that will slip over the existing antenna end of the mount and securing it with set screws or a pin but have not attempted anything yet. Any solutions or suggestions appreciated.

I had a friend of mine make me a CB antenna mount out of 1/4" steel rod and small pieces of steel plate. I made a reverse copy of the radio antenna mount for a pattern and he welded it up for me and I painted it black. Has worked well for over 10,000 miles.

Hi Mike , I set the SWR on my stock ant. . works really well . After experimenting with several different mike's , with no luck I might add , I installed a kl 203 and that did the trick , seems these radio's are low power and are a great match for the 203 . Or at least mine turned out that way .

I am running a whip antenna that is about 6" shorter than the stock Am/FM antenna. I cut the stock antenna off to match the length of the CB antenna. I use a cobra hand held mounted on a bracket that I got from Neil , our Air Rider member , and a push to talk switch that I got from him also and a hook up that works through my head set. The only draw back is that you cannot listen to the radio through your head set while you are hooked to the CB. Since I never listen to the radio anyway it presents no problem for me and I only use the CB for group rides.
