Heads up folks.. Radio spares are limited stock.

Post by suzib6sw »

Hi all.. Without wishing this to appear as a "plug" , I have been in touch with Clarion since August last year and have been monitoring their stock levels of the few bits for the Radios and CB's they have left.

Tape doors. I bought the last one 2 weeks ago.
No tape door hinge shafts left.. No tiny, tiny circlips that hold the shaft in place.. I do have a couple of "reclaimed" hinge shafts.
Regarding the tape doors.. The plastic hinge breaks nearly always on the right side. Im trying to work out something to make as a work around and I may have to resort to epoxy resin dyed black , dobbed on and then dremmeled away to re-create the hinge. UV and weathering makes the plastic brittle.

Tape Belts.. I have just bought the last 7 sets. While there are other belts that can fit, these are the proper ones.

LCD displays... there are less than 10 left.. I bought 6 the other day.. I'll try and get the others.. Once these go, then its displays from donor radios as they become available.

No buttons or knobs left. I have controls but these rarely give any grief.

I may have , with Clarions help, located a limited (less than 20) complete "nose- pieces" for the Radios.. I have ordered a couple just to see exactly what they consist of and Im hoping that they are exactly that.. Complete, knobs, buttons, LCD board, tape door the works..
These are not at all cheap so I'll check what they are and get as many as they will allow.

I suspect Clarion will not allow me to buy them all out just in case one of their bosses "need one for a client"

CB units.. The ONLY thing available is the escutcheon you see on the left inner fairing.. No Lens, glass, buttons, nothing..just the plastic.
AS an FYI, The Main Transceiver under the left fairing is the same as the one for the Suzuki Cavalcade BUT the wiring is different.. I can rewire I think.. BUT you wont find the Control unit very easily at all..

I have been pouring over the diagrams and did notice something interesting but cant see exactly what /why its there..
When you are playing the tape, pressing preset number 3, throws a relay in the radio.. No change to sound on the headset but it may affect the speakers .. At first I thought it was an undocumented Dolby switch as its part of that circuit but no..

So the upshot of all this folks is, if you have a radio or cb that needs some attention, nows the time..

This is more of a timely reminder than a plug or thats the intention so apologies if it comes across any differently.

I do wish to express my sincere thanks to my contact at Clarion.. I have never, in 25 years of being in the computer/repair business, met anyone so willing, courteous and professional as he is or as they are as a company to help a totally discontinued product remain alive as long as possible.
:bowdn: :bravo:

Cheers..

Thanks, Pete! These radios/tape players are old. Mine has been working fine until today. Had the bike in the shop for some transmission work so I took out the radio fuse to minimize the draw on the battery as I knew they would have the bike for at least three weeks. They did. Got it back and replaced the fuse today and no radio. Clock works and I hear the radio turn on when I push the power button, but no radio. After putting so much money into other repairs on the bike I don't think I want to spend more on the radio. Just ride it until it breaks again then dump it.

Ron, try pushing the HS button on your radio. When the power is interrupted your radio defaults to that mode. You get the display and the unit seems to be working but the sound is directed to the head set plug instead of the speakers. This has cause many an owner much frustration. :tho:

In the past, I have had radios default to Tape mode too.. Clock, lights, no radio functions.. .. Press the Tape/Radio button on the handlebar and double check that HS switch as Jim Says.... should be unlit for speakers.

In all honesty, they are old, yes, but for their age, well built.. There are very few pieces of electronics about that take the punishment these do.. 25 years of heat, cold, water, UV, vibration, crud, .. Im impressed.

No wonder, brand new, (and yes, I have seen one brand new in box,) they sold/sell for $1600 ish..

Cheers..

Thanks! I had already tried the HS switch but it was the tape monitor switch on the handle bars. I always forget about those handlebar controls!

Clarion has always made pretty decent stereos for cars, boats, bikes, etc.

Hi all..

Ok.. my shipment came in.. I have the last of the original tape belts.. These may be substituted with another make down the line

LCD displays.. We are on the last few..

Good news.. Though not cheap they are what hoped and a little more..
They are the front escutcheon complete with tape door, hinge, buttons, knobs, controls, entire LCD panels, and BONUS!.. the Rubber seal on the metal frame..
These are brand spanking new.. Again, I'll try and get as many as I can..

So..There's life in these ol' Gals yet.. ;-)

Cheers..

Hey all. I'm new to the family and the Voyager this month. My Voyager came with all the manuals. If anyone needs, I would make a copy of the radio manual. It's not that big.

Congrats on the bike, but watch out.. they are addictive ;-)

Thanks for the offer of the manual.. I do have it scanned in already as a PDF and many have them too so if you need the electronic versions ever, just yell ;-)

Hi all..
I have managed to locate a source of non clarion cassette belts for the Radios.. There are no more OEM clarion belts at Clarion. I have 4 of the original smaller ones left and then a small stock of the replacements..

LCDs: Down to to very few at clarion..I have a couple at the moment.
Entire front panels: Complete, lcd, board, controls, tape door etc.. I have two.. Not cheap but I have..

CB: Nothing left at Clarion.. But I can repair the controller escutcheon and I do have a limited stock of spares for both the controller and the main unit..
Still working on the H/M button mould..

As before. I can fix most of the electronic faults with the entire systems including the power amps..

Cheers...
