Two year old concern confirmend

Post by cushman eagle »

When I replaced my cooling system hoses,o-rings and water pump seal two years ago on my '99 VXII,I was concerned about how easy the water pump input tube slid into the pump :hmm: .It was as if the o-ring was too thin, even though it was OEM ,it had very little interference.I thought o-well the original lasted 15 years,it should be good to go, :bat: I should have known better. Two weeks ago,I saw a drop of coolant on the floor under the left header tube, and on the bottom of the tube, but could not find the source.Thursday I started the bike, ran it until it was warm and shut it off.Last evening I saw it seeping out it the water pump inlet.I removed the o-ring,and it still measures the correct cross section[3.2mm or .125].I went to our 0-ring assortment in our shop, found an o-ring with a .139 cross section and installed that today. It installed with the resistance I am used to. :perfect10: I should have done it right the first time. :please:

Well glad to hear your able to get that done. I have just started to look mine over for needed maintenance .
This will be the longest I have ever just let the old girl sit in the shop.
This will be a Sea-Foam test for sure, it has been since the beginning of Dec. when I put it up for the season. Then upon getting diagnosed with COPD I have been avoiding the shop and changing my routine to aid in quitting the smoking habit.
Started to get back into working on the bike this past week, and the front fender is on , with the second of my AVA fender skirts that I had made up. This took way too long but I had that issue last year with the sciatic nerve, which took darn near a year to heal up.
Hope yours is over with and you are back in shape. I has been a while since I have been on here for more than just checking pm's
Back too things to be concerned with, this sealed battery I have with over 4years of service had me worried at the end of the 2016 season...
And upon checking the sealed battery, it needed to be replaced. I do want to add the primer switch for the fuel as you had done to yours. Yesterday I drained the carbs and only 1/4 of fuel remained in the bowls. But with the faux tank cover off for the batt rpl. I can with ease get too the field plug of the solenoid and get that primed up today for a ride. We are supposed to get weather here in the mid 60's.
Any how , back to your concern and repair, I had done that repair on mine when it only had about 15k on it. With the kit that Carl makes up. I will be taking a look at that this season, thanks for the heads up , as I will be getting up there in mileage soon.

I am praying for you to Gene. COPD is some serious stuff. I picked up a few in my day having such a problem moving air in and out that I wondered if I could get them to the hospital alive. The sad part is I also had to pry cigarettes out of their fingers to treat them and give them oxygen. I hope and pray you drop the cigarettes now while you still have usable lung tissue. I have a sister living with us who wont give them up and she coughs constantly. Almost too much to allow her to get work. Sad because God only gave us one pair of lungs.
