Help! Engine stopped. DFI trouble
My engine started to malfunction and stopped. Can’t start it. The DFI lights is on. I read the signal: 2 long and three small one. What does it mean? I don’t have the manual with me. Can someone please tell me what this means? I’m in holiday and far away from home. My bike is a ZN1300, 86-modell

Re: Help! Engine stopped. DFI trouble
I found the manual on the internet. The code means: ignition pulse. No ignition pulse are transmitted to control unit. Perform engine speed signal test and check ignition system damage. Anybody know how to perform engine speed signal test?

Re: Help! Engine stopped. DFI trouble
Hopefully you have done this already, but the first thing to check with a vehicle that indicates a electrical problem, is Check the battery connections & Volts & amps coming out of battery with a LOAD tester. Then check alternator output. Then start with related components. A huge part of failures are due to low voltage from battery or alt. Just saying Hope that is all it is. Good luck..

Re: Help! Engine stopped. DFI trouble
did it quit while riding ? Did the DFI light come on when it quit or when you tried to restart it? If when you tried to start then basically ignore it.
does the pump come on for 5 seconds when you turn on the key? If not then check battery ,fuses and relays.
We may need more info to figure this out

Re: Help! Engine stopped. DFI trouble
The DFI light comes on before I try to start. Not while running. With a little help from the ferry crew I was able to jump start it and run it. I read low voltage readings, 10-12 voltage when the engine is running. Maybe the stator or the r/r is mail function? I’m about 353 miles from home, is it possible to come all the way home by jump starting it? I will give it a try and see how far I will come. Thanks for all replies :-) I will keep you updated

Re: Help! Engine stopped. DFI trouble
It lives again And I suspect my new power bank to be the sinner. Is it possible that a fully charged power bank can mess up with the electric system?
I disconnected the power bank and for 40 miles it has now run smoothly. It starts by itself and the voltage readings is about 14V- jorgeno

Re: Help! Engine stopped. DFI trouble
Well, the power bank theory is not right. Still having low voltage readings when I’m driving (4-5 stripes maybe 12 V) So I’m thinking I have a Norwegian troll somewhere in my electric system. But by running it to start it’s still possible to drive. I’m now on today’s last ferry, I’m driving the coastline road. The crew is giving me power to my battery while we are at sea. Soon I will arrive at my base camp. I will charge my battery there for tonight. This road trip is more exciting and stressful than I thought

Re: Help! Engine stopped. DFI trouble
It seems to be the main alternator. Reading about 0,5V@4000 rpm. And it should be 50V
The sub-alternator is in good shape. Measure about 62V@4000rpm.
Luckily this bike has to alternators. That saved me on my last trip.

Re: Help! Engine stopped. DFI trouble
Update: this is the picture of the bad alternator
And this is how it should be: Just going to mount it all together and test it
