F1 error message
I have a 2011 1700 voyager on several occasions I have gotten an E18 or 8 F1 error message and bike loses most of its power but if I let it set a few minutes it clears up and the error message goes away. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what did you have to do to fix it. It does not happen all the time but becoming more often

Re: F1 error message
Try cleaning your throttle body. I use chem tool b12? fuel injector cleaner on mine. I spray a small amount into each bore, let set a couple minutes, then turn on ignition without starting. This allows the throttle blades to open when you twist the throttle. Wrap a clean rag around the end of a flat tip screwdriver and soak the tip of the rag in cleaner and wipe the bores where the throttle plates contact the bore when closed. The rag should be black from the carbon buildup you are cleaning away. Do this a couple times until the rag is still clean after wiping the bore. I have noticed mine will get a bit of hesitation to it at low, just off idle speeds before the code starts showing. This clears this up as well. Once the rag is clean after wiping, start bike, may be slow starting the first time. Hold throttle to around 2-3000 rpm and give a quick spray into each bore. it will stall if you spray too long. Do this 4-5 times into each bore and you are done.

Re: F1 error message
Is this problem preventable? I run 3 oz of Seafoam in 3 consecutive fill ups with my Road Star to keep the fuel system as clean as possible. Does anyone do something like this with their Voyager?
Thanks,
Jim

Yes, Amsoil fuel additive. 1 oz every other tank full when traveling, when sitting in the garage i try adding an ounce to tank. I took the cover off the throttle body 20k ago and it was clean. This is the second throttle body, and it had 80,000 miles of use. I use a K&N air filter.

Re: F1 error message
I will pick some up and start using it in the spring...Unlike North Carolina, we are a bit to cold for these old bones to be out riding...
