Adjustment of shock air pressure

I was just reading the Owner's Manual and had to laugh at one statement in it in regards to what air pressure I should be running. "The standard air pressure for an average build rider of 68kg (150 lbs)" then it goes to a chart. Average weight of 150 lbs??? The next time I am 150 lbs I'll be decomposing in a hole somewhere! I haven't been 150 lbs in well over 40 years.

This bit behind us, I am asking what people use to pump air in for the front and rear and what pressure gauge you're using to measure air pressure?

I use about 35lbs riding solo but with way too much crap on the bike (camping stuff, laptop, cooler for margarita, &etc.).
That needs to go on a diet almost as much as I do.
I ran higher before putting fresh oil in the shock.

So, what devices do you use to measure that air pressure and to put it in?

An air compressor (quickly) and regular tire gage.

I ran about 55lbs in rear shocks for years before finally upgrading to Progressives. I wasn't even 150lbs back in high school and it is long in the rear view mirror now.

I have a hand carried air transport tank I use for my bikes shocks.
I pump it up to the pressure I want,then fill the shocks from that.

You need one of these. Get exact pressure needed add or remove air pressure without loosing any air. Mine goes up to 30 psi which worked good for me when I used the stock shocks. I personally would run 22 psi in the rear shocks and 7 psi in the front.

8 lbs in front. I personally prefer 50 in rear with fresh amsoil shock oil. 55 two up. You will need to experiment where you prefer the handling and comfort

Some folks here have swapped to Progressive shocks (usually because their stock ones leaked), but found them to be too stiff. I suspect you might be able to work a deal here to swap your stock shocks (which a lot of us like just swell) for their Progressives.

Like the one VoyKimmer. 50 to 55 lbs in rear set a #3. I only check pressure when bike is on center stand.

I use the same small volume air pump with gauge shown earlier. Picked it up at my local Harley dealer. Works great. I've been running 8 in front and 40 in rear with dampers set at 4. works great alone but bottom out on bigger bumps with 2 up. After reading these replies, I'll be pushing the rears up another 10 psi next time my wife tags along.
