compressor guage light goes on in neutral and off in gear

compressor light comes on in neutral and off in gear and sometimes stays on it works when light is on is there something connected to the neutral that has to do with the compressor light

Actually, that sounds correct since the pump only works in neutral

Most lighting issues I have fund come down to dirty/corroded connectors.
Took me about a week to track down a corroded inline fuse when my dash went out last year (lights worked but screen was blank).

The light should only come on (and the pump work) when you're in neutral (unless they changed that behaviour with 87 & 88 models - if you happen to have one of those). If it didn't work like that in the past, then somebody changed something (which wouldn't be a bad mod IMHO, as it would be handy to be able to adjust pressure while on the move).
