Hi to all I'm new to the site. I just picked up my 1987 Kaw Voyager today. The prevy owner pulled a fast one on me and I really blame myself for missing this but. Alright the bike won't idle and almost sure the carbs will need rebuilt and I knew that before hand. Thats fine but when I trailed it home I noticed coolant leaking on the bed and stripped it down to get to the radiator and found the bottom tubes are toast, can this be repaired by a radiator shop. The bike has only 2 marks on it 18,000 miles looks like almost new and seamed to go down the road ok, Help please.
Thanks, Dain

Re: New here need some help
Welcome aboard
If the rad is rusted out I do question that it only has 18k on the OD but that's ok these bikes run forever if taken care of.
First, I would make certain that the igniter is the correct one as all the 86 and some of the 87 year Voyagers were shipped with ones that advanced the spark too far and it would bust the starter chain (very bad) Details here:https://amervoyassoc.org/techtipsXII.ph ... in/Igniter
Yes the rad can be replaired or there are often used ones available on eBay or other sites for less than $100. While your at it replace all the coolant hoses as they tend to get soft and leak.
Change the oil and coolant Oil must be drained in 3 spots Details here:https://amervoyassoc.org/techtipsXII2.p ... 0Locations

Are you referring to the coolant metal tubes near the bottom of the radiator? If you don't mind used parts, or need expert advice, contact Carl Leo. You won't find a nicer, helpful person that specializes in all things VXII. His contact info at the top of the forum threads.
