99 voyage won't shift in 2nd gear

Post by dirtbike13 »

Hello all I'm new to the voyager 1200 I just took over my dad bike do to health and not able to ride any more. It has 80,200+ miles on it that he got new. Lone storey short the bike has sat for four or five years so I cleaned the carburetors, engine oil filter , fluid in clutch master cyl.bike starts and runs good so I set out to take a test ride but clutch was slipping or dragging so turned around only 1/2 mile turned around and1/2 mile back. So I flushed clutch master cylinder oil out .clutch working much better first gear rolled out much better but now it won't go into 2nd. Shifts into 1st and neutral but just stops at neutral no grind or sounds ??? On first trip the bike went through all gears ?? What could of happened

The VXII has a positive neutral finder that prevents it from shifting past 1st gear when it is cold and running less that 2500-3000 RPM :hmm:
I usually make my first upshift at 2500 + after a cold start, then after it warms up,I can upshift at about 2000.

No more, no less, and pay no attention to the little man in the sight glass, he lies. If you have no leaks, and no billowing clouds of blue smoke out of the exhaust, you may safely ignore the sight glass.

Thanks Cushman eagle for the info on my bikes got the clutch cover gasket put in today. Some new oil and started it up and let it get up to temp. Then toke the the bike out on the road and it shifted thought all the gears just fine. But it did seem to slip on up hills and in the higher gears thinking the clutch is just wore out at 80,200 miles I think in need a new stack of clutch plates.

It is possible.your master cylinder vent port is plugged, not letting the clutch fully engage :hmm:
I took my clutch out to inspect it at 75,000 miles, and it still checked within new specifications
so I put it back in. :woohoo:

Thanks again for the help  I did get the clutch working again It was in the clutch slave cylinder the piston wouldn't slid all the way out so I cleaned and honding out When I went through the clutch the clutch plates were still in spec. At 80,200+ miles that's amazing. Now the bike is back on the road again. My dad put all 80,000 on this bike now I can't wait to try to match the years, miles and all the great people he meet and road way
