aftermarket drivers backrest for factory seat

Post by 4redjf »

In years past i did put a drivers backrest on my 93 kaw but i cannot not remember exactly the details. It was a used one and i got it at a flea market. I believe it came off a older Honda. Somehow i was able to get it to work. It had the chrome tubes that came up on the sides of the seat. No cutting of the seat with that version.
Anyone with pics or thoughts on this?

look in the accessories listing of the Voyager XII Tech Center page, accessed from the AVA Home Page for a drivers backrest and you will see the Markland drivers backrest installation info with pictures of the actual unit itself. This is the most common one used.

Thanks, i got a markland backrest but was hoping to find the mounting assemblies for it. Apparently when these are removed they leave the mounts on the bikes. I looked around here on AVA and couldnt find any. Before i think i used hose clamps and clamped the chrome arms to the pass handles.

occasionally they come up for sale on eBay when someone is breaking down a Voyager XII. Keep looking as I have seen them there sometimes mixed in with other body/chassis/fairing part lots. Not often but they do show up now and then.

Thanks, yeah i been looking on ebay and around online. Still no luck finding them. For now i have used some clamps to hole the backrest frame to the pass handles. But would really like to get the proper setup.
I did notice when changing out the floorboards to the factory pegs, that the motor housing is almost setting on the frame. I did read about the engine mount bushings may need replaced. But the Manual doesnt show the bushings to buy and also doesn't show how to R & R them. From looking at it, it does appear to be a major job.
