5.3 gallon tank?
I was on fumes this last fill up. When on the side stand it always appeared there was room for more fuel. So after filling to the neck while on side stand I had a buddy hold the Voyager up straight. It took about 6/10 of a gallon more (a little into the neck) and the fill up then totalled 5.5 gallons. So, my question- is the 5.3 gallon capacity to the neck only when on side stand? Seems like the capacity when up straight might be closer to 5.8.

Re: 5.3 gallon tank?
I haven't run one dry yet, but read this carefully.
Do not fill the tank to the upper lip unless you intend on riding the bike right away. The fuel will heat up, expand and run all over the place.
When on a trip I put fuel in last when taking a break at a service station. Then I ride immediately.
Just waiting two minutes could be bad if the engine is still hot and the sun is shining.

David is right on. I've had this happen. Only top off if you are going to ride right away. Fuel will expand quickly and you are taking a big risk when it runs over a hot engine. This is OK to do if you are hitting the road again immediately after fueling, but otherwise, don't push it.David (N. Alabama) wrote:I haven't run one dry yet, but read this carefully.

And you really don't want gas splashing on the area of your body that is closest to the tank either.

Re: 5.3 gallon tank?
I've had my 2012 VV abs for a couple of months now.
I'd like to know how much is really in the tank of useable gas. When the light comes on, it takes about4.2 gallons. Does anyone know how far you can go from when the light comes on. It makes me nervous because at that point the needle is on empty.

Re: 5.3 gallon tank?
I think the recall the most I have put in my tank is 5.1 gallons, but that doesn't answer your question.
I believe there is supposed to be a gallon left before fumes. So, if you average 40 MPG and ride at your average rate, you should be able to go an additional 40 miles.
If the low fuel light comes on I start looking for fuel. If I am on back roads I hit the fuel button on my GPS.

Re: 5.3 gallon tank?
It's 5.3 I ran out of gas, and a big thank you, AAA, they were there in less the 15 minutes. The low fuel light came on and I thought the 1700 was like the 1200. But after 22 miles it came to a stop, my low fuel light comes on between 4.2 gal and 4.5 gal. On the Trip meter 170 to 180 miles. I now stop for gas anytime my Trip meter gets to 180, I did take a fuel run out to 210 miles and it took 5.1 gallons to fill the tank. but that was my best, riding solo and slow.

Re: 5.3 gallon tank?
Today I pushed the limit; I rode 210 miles and when I filled the tank it took 5.234 gallons. I didn't have to walk but seems like it was close.

Anyone seen the old Seinfeld episode where Kramer drove to the left of E to see what that world was like? It's like a forbidden place that calls to us.... well, maybe just some of us!
