Windshield?
My windshield is trashed and I will need to replace it. The stock at 24" is to tall for me, I don't like looking through the windshield. I cut the trashed one down to 20" since you really cant see through it very well and it lets a lot more air in for summer riding (it gets REAL HOT in the desert).
Here is where I need some opinions.......I want to order a new Cee Baileys at 22" with a vent. My questions are.....do I run stock width, plus 2", plus 4"? Anyone run a wider windshield? Benefits.....opinions?

Re: Windshield?
I have a Cee Bailey +2" tall, +2" wide. I really like it. I don't have an issue with looking through the windshield.

Re: Windshield?
I had a Clearview 2 + 2 on my XII, and I looked through the windshield , Whatever size you get you need to be able to see over it, if you get caught in a good rain, as you cannot see through the shield in a good rain. so if you can,t raise yourself up enough to see over it in the rain, could be a BIG problem. I am 5' 9" and could barley sit up high enough to look over my 2 + 2. I have a vented windshield now and it is a big help to get some wind on me in the hot summer.

Re: Windshield?
I have the 22" Cee Baileys on my XII, stock width. I ride solo 100%. I see over the top just fine (I'm 5' 9".) I get a little breeze on the outside of my arms which is fine whenever the temps are 60° or higher. Even when the temps are in the 40s the shell of my coat keeps the cold out, reasonably well. When the temps are in the 30s it's just cold. So given that, there is no need to go wider than stock.

Re: Windshield?
Clearview is also anther option and they have been good to the AVA over the years. We had 3 inch over stock height and it came in handy with the rains in Florida. Since it is much more hot, dry and windy where you live I wouldn't go much over stock and certainly pay for the adjustable vent in the middle.

Re: Windshield?
If you ride with a passenger they will appreciate the wider shield, It takes the buffing off of them.

Re: Windshield?
Clearview 6 taller and wider, I look thru it and it takes a lot of wind off Lori. Great company to deal with, look for the XII pics on their site, that's my 88 in the pic. No vent in Florida and I have no problems with that.

Re: Windshield?
Slipstreamer, $114 stock height or +2" no vents. Got one on my Vetter Windjammer fairing on my KZ1000. Good windshield, better price. If you want breeze, don't buy wider than stock. If you want vents, you could cut in some Vetter round vents. JMHO96desertXII wrote:My windshield is trashed and I will need to replace it. Re: Windshield?
The reason I got a Cee Baileys was because I tried to drill into my OEM, to install the round, pop vents from Craig Vetter: the circular saw caught, jumped, scratched, and cracked the windshield. Had no choice but to order a new one. YMMV. Don't get me wrong, I like the Vetter pop vents, the windshields just are not that easy to cut holes in. Just an FYI. Cheers!

You meant hole saw, not circular saw, right?SgtSlag wrote:The reason I got a Cee Baileys was because I tried to drill into my OEM, to install the round, pop vents from Craig Vetter: the circular saw caught, jumped, scratched, and cracked the windshield. Re: Windshield?
Yep, "hole saw".
I ordered a new windshield, complete with their fancy-dancy rectangular, shuttered vent. Love it! I think I tried to use my drill press, but it wasn't deep enough to accommodate the windshield, for where I wanted the vents to go -- not sure anymore, was done last Summer. The hole-saw I found, was pretty course in the teeth. It did not want to cut smoothly, at all. I could only find one, locally, in the correct size. If I were to try it again, I would try to turn the hole-saw by hand, after drilling the center-hole to guide/hold it. Once it had a circular groove to follow, I think it might have worked. Live-n-learn. Cheers!

Re: Windshield?
I looked at the Cee Baily website after I last posted. I was surprised at the low cost of the V IIX windshield. Actually a little lower than the Slipstreamer. The vent was a little pricey but I think it would be more effective than the Vetter pop vents. I don't feel a great deal of difference on my KZ1000 when I open the vents, but then I'm usually wearing a leather jacket that blocks the wind very effectively.SgtSlag wrote:Yep, "hole saw".![]()
