Re: rally
The Minneapolis international airport is actually just south, a few miles, from St. Paul -- Minneapolis butts up against St. Paul -- Twin Cities as in conjoined Twins.
The next closest international airport would be Rochester, Minnesota (78 miles/125 km South, very small, very limited flights), then Duluth, Minnesota (151 miles/243 km from St. Paul), International Falls, Minnesota (278 miles/447 km from St. Paul), Milwaukee, Wisconsin (327 miles/526 km from St. Paul), or O' Hare, in Chicago, Illinois (403 miles/648 km from St. Paul).
MSP Airport is your best, closest option. Be prepared, however, for traffic: it takes anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours, to get anywhere around the TC metro area, depending upon traffic (more so than distance) -- even at 8:00 AM, on Saturday, or Sunday, mornings! Rush hour traffic begins around 6:00 AM - 9:00 AM, then again from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, in the metro area, Monday through Friday. During rush-hour times, traffic is heavy, and the Interstate Highways can slow to a stop, but not for long, usually.
Like I said, even on Saturday mornings, traffic can be surprisingly heavy and slow going, at times. Plan your site-seeing accordingly, and use your cell phone's GPS system (Google Maps, for example) to plan your travel times, noting that it will change as traffic varies throughout the day/night, as well, impacting drive times. The Twin Cities have many beautiful sites to see: museums, restaurants, micro-breweries, etc. Cheers!
