Starter won't sop starting.

Post by Zoss724 »

Greetings.
I'm looking for some assistance, advice, insight.
Ok before I get to far. 2010 Voyager. 46k.

Several month ago I had an issue were the bike just would not start. Backed it out of the garage, turned the key - nothing. I had to the power gauges and the radio came on. No crank. No click. No nothing.
I went through the service manual and I diagnosed it to be the starter solenoid (that was my best guess). eBay to the rescue. A few days later all was well; for a month or so.
One day I'm out riding, we made a few stops. Upon mounting my steed, I stated that I wanted to go just down the road a piece to the filling station to top off. As I rode I noticed a "different" noise in the neighborhood of my right foot. Lucky for me It was only a couple hundred yards to the gas station. When I pulled to a stop and turn the motor off, well tried to, the motor continued to run. More descriptively the starter continued to try to and was succeeding in turning the motor over. The key was off, kill switch was in the off position and the kick stand was down, but the motor was still turning over. I proceeded to take off the seat and battery cover and pulled the starter solenoid fuse (30 amp). The starter kept running. I disconnected the battery and then it stopped. Next door was an auto parts store. I purchased some electrical contact cleaner. Sprayed the switched and all the contact points that I could find. After what I am going to call the cool down period, all was well again. I wrote this off to sticky/corroded contact point in the starter button.
Yesterday (a couple of months later) I had the same thing happen again. I just disconnected the battery. Now I asking for help.

OK what would keep the starter running?
The starter button being pushed? Or sticking...
Maybe a "stuck" starter solenoid? Cheap eBay clone?
Any insight?
Very confused
:hmm:
Thankx in advance
