Alaska or bust??

No not me but a buddy of mine wants to go from Louisiana to Anchorage and back. He is wondering what the accomidations are like on the Alcan hyway. I did it in the 60's when it was 1500 miles of gravel road and 150 miles between gas station but I'm sure that's changed. Anyway I'm wondering if any of you have made the Alcan trip and what accomidations are like nowadays........Gator Mike

Pick up a copy of "The Milepost" Alaska Travel Planner....it has tons (700+ pages) of detailed info on routes/accomodations, etc throughout AK & BC... I have not made the trip but I am also in the planning process...

Thanks for the info, Trisha and I are planning the same trip from mid May to July 2014. This will be Trisha's retirement dream trip. I'll be riding my 1700 pulling a timeout trailer and Trisha will be on her Gold Wing Trike. We plan on ending the trip at the AVA International Rally where ever it may be.

Sounds like a great adventure...I'm going to AK the end of June this year....Not retired yet & I don't have enough vacation time to ride up & back so I am flying to Anchorage & renting a BMW R1200 GS Adventure for 6 days....So I will have some first hand insight to share later this Summer...

You guys have made me very envious. We were stationed in Anchorage for 4 years in the 60's. It was fantastic. Would love to get back up there for a while but finances won't permit it now. Hope you folks get to go ---I know you will have a great time.......Gator Mike

I drove up the Alcan in June '69 and back down in October '70 after a tour of Air Force duty near Fairbanks. Haven't been back but it's always been on my bucket list. Love to make the trip on a motorcycle! Especially now that it's paved all the way!

I orderd "The Milepost" for my buddy a few days ago and received it yestarday. Man you folks were right. This is chock-a-blocked with 760 pages of information. If it's not in there you probably don't need to know it. Going to try and get it to him tomorrow. Thanks for the tip.........Gator Mike
