Hyper active fuel pump.

Post by OldKawDrvr »

Any body ever have a fuel pump that wouldn't quit?

A week ago I cut short a trip because I went through a half a tank of gas after only 60 mies. I usually get a 100 when the gauge reads half. So I stopped and looked around and smelled gas and the #4 carb bowl was wet on the bottom. So I figured a leaky carb was dumping gas. I bought 4 carb kits, pulled the carbs, :tho: rebuilt them (they looked new inside) and re-installed them. Got it back together started the bike and a puddle of gas formed under the bike. :gmad: The fuel pump wouldn't stop pumping when the bowls were full. :hmm: I pulled the pump took off the end cap with the points in it and worked the plunger a few times with a screwdriver. Pressure tested it, got about 3-4 psi and put it back in the bike. Got about 400 miles on it now and all SEEMS well. What I want to know is do I need to carry a spare fuel pump with me now? :thk: At $189 it's not on my wanna have list. '91 V XII
