93 voyager 1200 - Has liked: 1 time

Just 83 1300
Its sat inside since 2018.pretty clean.i thought it was a voyager 4 cylinder. Apparently its a kz 1300 but dressed up like a voyager. So i guess: transmission fluid 1 tbsp down each plug hole. Replace any plugs that need it.let sit 24 hours. Change oil filter radiator coolant. I assume it has one. Pull tank off, rinse it out, put gas in, swish it around, then remount.change fuel filter. Change brake fluid. Install new battery. Fingers crossed see what happens.130 hp according to specs.

And there are basically no common parts between the three. As a matter of fact the Voyager 1700 isn't related at all to the first two series of Voyagers. As you correctly surmised, the ZN1300 Voyager is indeed descended from the Z1300. The ZG1200 and ZG1000 Concours descend from the ZX1000 Ninja. All of which descend from the various Z series bikes.
So, no matter which of the inline Voyagers you have, they are descended from some hot-sh*t screaming fast bikes, and retain some of that heritage. The ZN1300 was apparently too much, too much electronics, too much size, too much weight, and the ZG1200 Voyager XII was created to remedy that. Same comfort, lighter, cheaper, I think maybe faster because of the less weight, better handling, less complex. IMNSHO the Voyager XII is the perfect bike. I have heard VN1700 owners say that the 1700 Voyager is even perfecter ;)
Bikes are different because bike riders and owners are different (Some are waaaaaay differnt LOL). One of the many joys (and headaches) of bike ownership is customizing them to fit us, to fit our ideal, our purposes. As for me, I demand it all from my beloved Gertrude - travelling around the country, hauling groceries, commuting in the city, chasing a friend's 1400 Concours on mountain roads, basically everything (except off-road stuff). When I first saw a Voyager XII many decades ago, I knew that was my dream bike, and indeed she has turned out to be. Even dealing with the DSPO stuff (after all, she was an $800 bike) has been worth it. I have added many things to increase comfort, enjoyment, and safety, and to lessen maintenance. I have broken a few things along the way - shifter linkage (size 15 feet), speedometer cable, rear shocks (300 pounds of me flying over an unmarked raised railroad crossing in Georgia blew out the seals), and the choke cable. Thats it, in 35000 miles over 2 1/2 years. She's more reliable than ANY car I've ever owned, including brand new ones.
And... she dances :)
