Fork tube pitting
Previous owner said he had the fork seals redone before i bought the bike, after riding about 500 miles they started leaking like a sieve, took them apart and found this pretty bad(to me) pitting on the fork tube, and clear evidence where the guy tried to scotchbrite it away. Do i need new fork tubes?

Re: Fork tube pitting
And can anyone tell me if these are progressive springs or not? They look awfully short

Re: Fork tube pitting
Update#3 this happened? Has anyone seen this happen to the spring collar or whatever before?

Re: Fork tube pitting
Stock suspension has a large spacer that you don't use with Progressives.

Re: Fork tube pitting
If you want to ride now and take your time looking for forks you can sand your forks across (not up and down)Cut it in long strips and sand evenly around the tube using 1K wet and dry maybe 800 depending o results then finish off with 1200 or 1500 and this should clean off any sharp edges and light pitting then with what's left use JB weld slow drying to fill in pits pushing it into the pits clean so you don't have to sand much let set up 24 hrs and then sand it flush.
This is not a high stress function for JB so it should hold indefinitely or at least give you time to shop around for a nice pair.
I did this on an old Honda I couldn't find a decent set ended up looking good and drove it thousands of miles leak free.
Progressive springs gapping is spaced bigger along the length so an even gapped spring along its full length is not progressive.
good luck with your project.
And another thing if you try this get a needle and scratch out the inside of the pit as well as possible.
